YES, birds are free creatures and should never be grounded fully in that way, I have a hand tamed cockotile which I tamed my self and I never lock her cage, she is free and knows where her food and water is left and she always goes in her cage to sleep, a bird should never be left in its cage and defernetly not a parrot so if you can not tame it and play to keep it in its cage U should either give it to some body who can tame it or release the bird.

sorry if you think I'm being mean because I am not trying to be roud I just have strong feelings about a free bird, and I had the same problem of the bird flying into the kitchen while cooking and I fixed it by puching the bird out of the room and when that didn't work I would lock her in another room for a few mins and now when I cook the bird stays in that room or her cage until I leave the kitchen.

I did it for her safty she flew into the stove while i was cooking dinner. It scared me when that happened so i got the wings clipped. I think you are a little bit harsh to me. My birds are like my children also but that dont mean im going to let them get in danger. Ever put a child proof fence up or child proofed your house. Why? You are supposed to train them also.

I thought you said you didn't believe in locking her cage, not being smart, but let's tell the whole story. Birds have no nerve endings in the part of their wings that are clipped, just like clipping a dogs nails, or a cat's. The reason I clipped my birds wings was so they could have free roam of my house without flying into the ceiling fans, but they could still fly or jump high enough to get on the couch or chair if they chose to.

In my opinion, I do not believe that it is abuse to clip a parrots wings. People, as a whole, do numerous things that can be classified as "abuse" to their family pets and birds. I feel that if someone needs to clip a parrots wings to begin with- then they are afraid that the bird might fly away because they are doing something "wrong" to the bird, and the bird wishes to get away.

grounding a free spirt like a bird is wrong and in my opinion is worse then abuse, if I was to break a persons leg because I did not want them to get away would be worse and the police would call it false inprisonment and I would go do for a log time.

Like i said before i did it to keep them from flying into the stove while cooking. I thought it was cruel also but when she flew to the stove where i had open pots cooking it scared the hell out of me so i got her wings clipped not to be cruel but to keep her safe.

No, it's not abuse. Usually when you clip their wings, it's so they don't fly away. I always thought it was for smaller birds, but probably for parrots too.

It is absolutely not abuse to clip their wings, it shows you love and care about them. There are several reasons for clipping a pet bird's wings.
1. Most homes have ceiling fans, if they get loose, do you want their necks broke by the fan?
2. These bird's have been raised from birth in captivity, they can no defend themselves in the wild, so if they fly away they will probably be eaten by a cat or other animal, because they mostly have been raised to trust.
3. It makes it much easier to catch them if they do accidently do get outside.
As for the comment, that owners who clip wings are doing it because we don't treat our bird's well, that just shows that you don't know what you are talking about. We do it because we do care about, and love our bird's. My bird's have always come to me on their own , freely for kisses, and to be loved. They were always as loved as my kid's.
