I have a question about taxes ok I owe student loans and they always take my federal off of me. Well I have a son who was born this year 2008 and was told that in 2009 I can claim as a dependant now I am a single mom and I was told that the baby will get like 1,000 dollars. Will student loans take that money even though it is the baby's? If so that is really unfair.

yes they will take it. I had almost the same situation last year. I was to get a 2,300 dollar return. Most of which was money from having a kid. Well the student loan place took 1,700 of that money to pay off the rest of my student loans. If you start making a 20 dollar monthly payment now to your student loans they will have no reason to take your money because you will already be making payments.

Well right now I can't work because he is only 3 weeks old however up until december of last year I was paying $25 a month to student loans. I mean if I start working again and start making payments will they still take that money?

no if you start working again and call and make a payment plan your loan will come out of default and they will not take your money
