Out of curiousity when you went into labor and was in the hospital how did things go? Were you made comfortable? Did things move fast? my time at the hospital was pure hell. I was told to write up a birth plan and nothing was followed on it. I mean I was left laying in a cold dark room with no music or anything to calm me down. I was left in pain. I mean I was in labor 6 hours but would have liked it if something was done to soothe me. Their was two other women in labor but one had false labor and the other was in labor around the same time as me. I was going faster then she was and almost thought I was going to have to deliver the baby myself. It was pure hell and don't get me started on how they made me clean up after myself. It was terrible.

LOL, well, everyone's labor is different (and I've had 5 very different labors!) You were apparently in a cruddy hospital, and that really stinks!
Lets see: Labor number 1, it was fast and furious. By the time I got to the hospital, they told me I was just out of control, and I needed to relax. Then they did my exam, and I was already 9 centimeters, and the babies head was crowning.... That one was a whirlwind.
Labor number 2, well, he was breech, so I ended up with a c-section.
Labor number 3 was wonderful. I was induced. I was at a top of the line hospital, where everyone was so nice and helpful, not cold at all.
Labor number 4, well.... lets just say, it was accidental, and I had him on the floor of my bathroom, while I was waiting for the paramedics to arrive....
Labor number 5, it was another induction, and the labor and delivery was pretty good, but afterward was horrid. They left me in an empty room with the lights off for about 8 hours, while they waited for a surgery suite to open up (I was to have my tubes tied). I didnt' even hold the baby till he was about 12 hours old. That one sucked big time...

Wow. Your labor number 4 was a possibilty that scared me. I even had dreams about it. It almost happened with my second one. My first labor was so painful I didn't think I was in full labor. I got there and had her within an hour and only 3 pushes.

I gave birth to my daughter back in 2005. I remembered it went rather smooth.Had a private room. Had a tv and all. My husband was with me the whole time. The nursed check on me now and then. And the food was rather nice.
I didn't feel pain, went into the hospital because my water broke, yet no labour pains. Then the doc had to induce the labour and then it started to hurt. LOL But then only for few minutes since the doctor offered to give me an epidural. The hospital staff was quite efficient. They made sure my bed and room was clean when I went back after labour. As I said everything went smooth.

That's a bad hospital. I know that when the hospital gets busy they don't focus on the patients like they should, but the clean up thing is messed up. My first was in a hospital with minor complications so I got quite a bit of attention. It wasn't very personal. It was a military hospital so they had plenty of staff. They would have let me follow a birth-plan, as long as it was within the rules, but they didn't even tell me to make one. Of course I didn't take their classes. They have people called doulas that you can hire and their job is to take care of your needs and wants and yell at the doctors if need be. They can even be hired for recovery.
My second baby was much more pleasant both labor wise and experience. I went through a midwife. The room was like a spa and I opted to do the water birth which was in a giant tub in the room. Very little mess. They followed all my requests (or the ones they had time for, when I got there it only took an hour). They even helped handle my at the time two year old who was in the tub with me. After having the baby they gave daddy, sister and grandparents time to see her while they did the medical stuff and I took a shower. Three to four hours later they sent me home. Research shows that staying in a hospital increases the chance of infection and a uneventful delivery you are better off at home. It was nice. They even came to my house for the 24 hour check up on me and baby. We stayed in bed while they took care of us.

Things went great with me. I had a nurse with me at all times, monitoring everything. My labor progressed quickly, I received an epidural when I wanted it. In those days we did not write up birth plans. I was in a private room, and I delivered, they were three nurses, the doctor, and my husband with me. My pain was controlled well, I was constantly monitored, the baby was constantly monitored. I felt they went the extra mile to help me feel as comfortable as I could. I was in labor 6 hrs the first time, and under 2 the second. Both were not paid experiences. I wonder where you delivered, sounds like it was really a bad experience, either due to perhaps the hospital, doctor, or both. I have found the doctor has alot to do with it. I had two very picky doctors according to my nurses, and they treated me with great respect. I was also asked to complete a survey rating the experience and if improvement was needed. I rated them excellent. I am sorry, you had a bad experience. I assure you they are all not that way.
