I couldn't last more than 5 minutes

Well as most know the weather here in Minnesota is treacherous. I just came back from outside. I wore long johns, a long sleeve shirt, hockey socks, regular socks, 2 pair of gloves, 2 stiocking caps, and my huge heavy winter coat. I went out to use the snowblower to get rid of the huge piles of snow on my driveway that had built up due to the 35 MPH winds ALL day today. Well I was warm when I went outside. I lasted all of maybe 5 or 6 minutes. The wind seemed to be at about 40 MPH or stronger. The snow blew right in my face. Anyhow my feet were almost numb as were my fingers etc from the terrible cold. My sideburns and mustache were coated in ice. My whole body was covered in ice. All this from the snow blowing on me then freezing due to my body heat etc. I knew another minute or two would have been a possible case of frostbite. So the snow will have to wait till it's warmer and a LOT less windy. I'll just plow through it with my car when I have to park in the garage later tomnight. Now the funny thing is, my wifes restaraunt is jammed packed with customers out to eat. Myself personally, I'd prefer to stay home and have a nice home cooked meal in my jammies in this type of weather not go out to eat in these terrible temops. At the local airport near me it is noqw 5 below zero with 40 MPH winds and a windchill of 42 below zero. Ughhhhh!! So do you go out to eat in nasty weather like I am having now? Or do you stay home reading a book or watching TV or anything else to stay warm? I don't want to leave to pick the wife up tomnight but I have to in a couple hours. Stay warm all. I am trying my best here. Brrrr!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

hi grandpa Bob. Just thinking of your weather there is enough to give me goosebumps and makes me all thankful I am where I am right now! LOL. I have low tolerance for weather like yours. A little heavy rain will induce me to stay home and wait for the sun to come out hehehe. No way would I go out to eat in such weather. Hope the weather there is improving as I write. Be safe!

Not much makes me stay home as far as weather. Unless it's so bad that they shut down the cities/highways. It's Sunday morning & it is 13 below zero with 35 below zero windchill. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I had to go to the casino though. Also to a movie. Then of course the only TRUE thing I had to do was pick up the wife from work. I avoid being out in this cold as much as possible also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

When the weather is that way, I will stay at home if given the chance. I might even be right here on myLot. You made me cold just reading about it. We had a thawing day today, but it is supposed to get cold again tomorrow. Dress warmly for your trip to get your wife. She must be a really dedicated employee to work so many days at that restaurant. They must be good to her as well.

I'd love more than anything to have been able to stay at home tonight. But I have to get the wife from work as she doesn't drive and the buses stop running before her quitting time. But I've done this for many many years and it's part of my life. Now this morning I just wanted those free mugs so I went to the casino. It was today only that I could get them so we went anyhow. Otherwise I would not have went there in this weather actually. They are very good to her actually. She has been there for over 25 years now and we are good friends with the woner and his family. Great people they are. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well perhaps if you had added pants to your ensemble you would have lasted a bit longer! LOL I think that would have been a big help!! Boy would I like to have a photo of that! ROFL! I tend to stay inside and hibernate most of the winter. I only go out if I have to. I also wear a tee shirt under a sweatshirt with a jacket, and PANTS over my long-john and joggers over that if it really cold.

Grandpa Bob, next time may I recommend some pants over the long johns ...and snow pants. You can buy adult ones. Now, being a hockey mom, I will make a few other recommendations - silk long underwear, feels great and is warmer then regular long johns. Also, slather on some skin lotion before you go out..I am not sure why it works, but my guess is that the skin absorbs it and swells up a bit, resulting in the pores being a bit smaller and losing less heat. Oh and I would prefer some soup and homemade bread on a cold night, followed by some hot chocolate and a nice blanket. A fire in the fireplace would be nice but I am one fireplace short.

Read my comment a couple places above here about the pants thing. HAHAHAHA!! I'll pass on all your hints and just wait till it's warmer to clear the rest of the snow piles. HAHAHAHA! A cup of tea with some pizza is on it's way soon for me and the wife actually. Thanks bunches. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I like to hybernate in the winter like an ole bear. I don't go out unless I have too. Going to a restaurant is not a have to for me. We are getting the wind, cold and snow too. Earlier today the snow melted, well its back and looks like its going to stick around for awhile. We haven't had it as bad as you have, I am glad of that. BTW did you get my message about the discussion I made with a phone number for a coupon for free dog food.

It snowed a lot when we left this morning and it was windy. The driving was unreal. A lot of black ice at the intersections as well. I ran a red light due to not paying attention today as well. Luckily no cars were coming through the other way. Whew!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Someone has got to plow the snow. And that someone is me. I had drifts about 3 feet high right in front of my garage door. So I needed to clear that at least. I have coffee to keep me warm right now. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Just like you, I prefer not to go out in nasty weather. My elderly parents even more so. I can't imagine to the degree of cold that you experience. There must be a lot of people stuck at home, not being able or willing to go out. Do you stock pile food to cope with these days when it is just too freezing to go outside?

I do not need to stockp[ile for this type of weather as I am in the city and only a 4 foot snowfall/blizzard would close the city down. But we shop at Sams Club which sells things in bulk so we always have plenty food in the house. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Ummm.... Actually someone not far from here built an ice castle in his yard. Stairs, windows, drawbridge etc. The works. The city told him it has to be destroyed as it's in violation of many building codes. Go figure. I wanted to go see it after the story was on the news but it was just too cold for me to stand outside looking at it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well he had people including little children climbin in it and walking all around it so they feared an injurty. They e=ven cited a man once years ago for a HUGE tree house he had built for his kids. 3 BRs and even a toilet. But that's how the cities work. They don't want to be sued allowing someone to build something like this. Granted we have homeowners insurance but there are codes for structures built on our property so a person injured in something like this could sue the city easily. Hence the citations and or closings or condemnation of these things. Sad but true. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Sorry Grandpa Bob, I can't lie. I'm in Los Angeles, CA; so no snow for me. In fact today was down right spring like! (I'm sorry that sounded mean, I swear I'm not braggin!) That being said, I've only been to Minnesota once, and it was in the winter, and after being there for 3 days, I came home and was hospitalized for a week with pneumonia. LOL Sorry, I'm not coming back ever. Stay indoors, those people that are going out to eat are nuts, you are the smart one!

I'll admit, I'm a big WUSS!! Generally when I get ready to go to the store, I'll see what the forecast is for the next few days. If I can avoid going anywhere when it's cold, I'll stay home. I do have one problem though, I have to go out in it every day regardless, because the horses have to eat. I'll bundle up in my long johns, coveralls, a couple of snow hats, thick gloves, warm boots, a sweatshirt or two, and a jacket... and I'm good to go for about 5 minutes!!!!!!!! LOL... I have zero tolerance for cold weather.... I was born and spent the first part of my life in Southern California, and honnestly, I have never gotten used to the weather here in Northeast Kansas. I'm not sure I ever will. I was up in Minnesota several years ago in February, and let me tell ya, it was BRISK. I was in a little town called Virginia, secretarying a bull riding event. It was a good time, but man it was cold up there!!!! Far worse than it is here. Our expected high is 25 today, and we had a dusting of snow last nite again. I'm so looking forward to spring.

I live in a large city so the grocery store, Walmarts, A mall and Sams Club are all withhin a few miles drive. So it's actually no biggie for me to get out. I just hate having to do the snow removal when it's this frigid etc. Brrrr!! How long you been in Kansas? Virginia is about 50 miles west of the farm up north. Lovely little town actually. Our high today is expected to be 3 below zero. HAHAHA!! Thanks also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well, I got transplanted here by my parents in the fall of 1982. When I graduated high school in 1985, I left for warmer climates, and to apprentice at my great uncle's horse ranch learning breeding and training of Peruvian Paso's for a summer north of Sacramento, CA, then I entered the Air Force that August, as I was on delayed enlistment, got through basic, got hurt just the first day of tech school, got discharged, went back to southern Calif for the winter, spring and summer, then moved back to Kansas in August 1986, because the cost of living being so high out there. I lived in Kansas for 4 more years, moved to Nebraska for 11 years, (only about 70 miles north and 60 west of here), then back to Kansas since spring of 2003... but I've been here a good long while, and I still can't get used to it. It was very pretty up around Virginia, and all the people (locals) were super nice, I just couldn't live in that climate.

LOL... I forgot to add,,,,, the nearest grocery store, wal-mart, farm store, ect is 15 miles away from me, so to get supplies, I have to drive a bit. All we have in our little town is a bank, post office, co-op, and a gas station. Thus, with gas prices being what they are, and living out in the boonies, where the road grader might get to us withing 48 hours after a snow fall, but it's not guarenteed, we can get drifted in when we have 2 inches of snow when the wind is blowing. Our driveway has been known to drift with less!!!

Uggh! I wouldn't want to be outside in weather like that if I can help it. But if I had to pick up someone or something, I'd have no choice than to get out, would I? I've also noticed that I have this attitude only when I am warm and comfortable inside the house. When I get outside and get accustomed to the weather, I don't bother too much about it (but of course, I've never been anywhere where it snowed..lol). But I definitely would not go out to eat in this kind of weather...I wouldn't think it's worth all the trouble. I'd rather stay home, watch television or read.

My husband got off work early Friday because of the blizzard conditions we had. We didn't get much snow, the wind was just blowing around the few inches that we did have! Right now, it's -22 degrees here. The windchill is colder than -50. All day long on Saturday, I don't think the temperature ever got above -10 or so. We didn't go outside at all, except my husband went out with the dogs once (They wend out by themselves the rest of the time!), and he went and got the mail from the mailbox. It was just way too cold to go out to eat or anything like that!
