Two's Company, Three's a Crowd

Two's Company, Three's a Crowd - Lotus, Benta, and Itty

We love our cats. We now have 3 cats, Benta, Itty, and Lotus. Benta rules the roost. She has made it clear to the other 2 that she is Queen. Itty is the youngest and most playful of the bunch. She tries to coax the other 2 into a wrestling match and will do anything to get them to play. Lotus is the one that will play with Itty. Benta refuses to play and puts Itty in her place. Cat toys are scattered around the house. We must have 50 play mice in this house, none of which we can find. We have purchased several towers and scratching posts. The best ones we have found were the Turbo Scratcher. All 3 cats love this toy. The best toy is the free toy. I grabbed a box to put my purchase in when shopping at Aldi. I forgot my reusable bags and didn't want to buy more bags. The box is perfect for holding groceries and for the cats too!Lotus and Benta were the first to jump in. I was surprised to see them both in the box at the same time. They stayed there for quite a while. Itty wanted to play too, but Lotus gave her that "Two's Company, Three's a Crowd" look and Itty decided to stay out. She did find holes in the side of the box and decided to poke at the Queen and Princess. After a couple of hisses from them, Itty decided to leave them alone. We kept the box for a couple more days. Free cat toys are great, but this one was taking up to much room. We do have a smaller one that we keep under the coffee table. Often times you'll find one of them taking a nap in the box. So cute.

Your cat with the green eyes looks like my cat. Funny how they like the free toy best. Go figure!

I have 3 chihuahuas and I have the same kind of problem. Schatzie, the oldest and smallest, is the alpha female and makes sure the other two never forget it. She occasionally play with the male but usually just given the other two a look of disdain when they are playing or she get tired of the noise they make so she stops their tussling with a nasty snarl.

try having six its a real gas trying to find a place to sit here and try to walk with someone tripping u all the time they constantly attack from 1 point or another having 6 is alot but its triple the enjoyment and watching them all play together is hilarious the best toys are free thats the ones the cats make most out of the use of. they have several balls with bells on but who knows where they are their best toy is my fingers or anything that moves

Itty loves anything that has bells on it. Her favorite toy has tinsel and bells. She carries it around with her and knocks it about. Sometimes my Hubby will toss it and she brings it back to him. So much fun.

We have two cats at my parent's home, but one of the neighbour's cats has decided to make our place it's second home and oout cats hate him. They're always fighting and screeching in the middle of the night, it's quite annoying and I'm glad I don't live there anymore

I have 3 cats too, 1 older dog, 1 7 wk. old puppy and 2 birds. They are all inside critters too. The cats eat like pigs, poop like elephants and sound like elephants running thru the house. Its funny to watch all the critters with the puppy. So far they are adjusting to each other and getting along. The cats would like to eat the birds though. I live in a zoo.

We had four cats. One was much older and female and we called her "b*tch" cat because she was usually really unsociable. She was a great mommy in her time, but as she got older she generally grouched at and sometimes got downright fierce with the other cats even if they were her own. She got put down a while ago when she stopped being able to walk. We have three cats left. Two of them get along fine. The third one is kind of the odd man out. He doesn't do well emotionally with people or with cats. He goes into the basement and hides and doesn't come out very often. He's not too old, maybe about four, but I suspect he is headed for the vet's needle as well since he refuses to use the litter box even if we put it right near where he sleeps and he also refuses to go outside. He's just generally antisocial and unclean. He's fixed and had all his vaccinations but he just can't stop being mangy and losing hair and being rashy. The vet doesn't seem to be able to help. The other two cats are fine. One of them is the old lady cat's son. He's about six. He is beginning to act old like his mom, but he seems to get along in life fine. The fourth one is the one we call Baby Kitty, because he endeared himself to us as a kitten at the pet store. He's about four I think. Anyway, he is very loving and tries hard to be as cute as possible at all times. He is extremely social and he's even friends with our dog. In the end, I would conclude that too many cats is just not good. I think we would be just find with two, and if things keep deteriorating for the poor sick antisocial boy, we may just end up that way. As long as you don't count the dog as THREE, then we'll be fine. The dog certainly knows he's not a cat, so I think we are ok in that department.

I can relate to all of your cat stories. I have two csats, but at one time, I had four cats. You made me laugh with the 50 play mice thing. We have a few play mice, a cat scratcher & other odds n ends. I agree with you that free toys are often the ones cats like best. My 7 year old cats favourite toy is, would you believe, a piece of elastic. She goes balistic over this elastic. I think that she thinks it is a lizard. At night time, maybe at .00am, she carries this elastic up to our bedroom & wakes us up with strange miows, to present us with her catch.

Oh my goodness Elusive, the tabby looks just like my cat! I adore cats and often consider getting a second one. My fear is that Ripples would not take to having his territory encroached upon by another cat and begin spraying or using the bathroom other places besides his litter box! Once when I was gone on a vacation he missed me so terribly that he wet on several rugs and stuff. (my son was here with him!) The vet said that the cat was 'depressed' about my leaving him! So goodness knows what he would do if mom brought in another cat!

Your cats are just like mine; they love boxes and get into them every chance they get. My little girl, Sissy and I play peek-a-boo all the time with the boxes my mom's nebulizer medication comes in. She'll get in the box and hunch way down in so she thinks I can't see her and I'll keep saying, "Where's Sissy? I can't find my Sissy!" and then finally she'll stick her paw out and bat my leg or foot, then she hunches back down in. She'd play that for hours if I kept on with it. We must also have a couple hundred cat toys and mouses somewhere in the house but I sure can't find them. I stopped buying them toys because they love the plastic things from milk jugs just as much if not more than the toys I used to buy. Sissy's our "Queen of the House" and she plays it to the hilt. She was here first and she never lets my 30 pound male cat Squirt forget it. He's afraid of her and very intimidated by her so when she walks up to him and swats him for no reason he usually backs off or runs and hides. It's just so hilarious. I can't imagine my life without my kitties. Annie

I have a cat that we got from a little old lady. She used to put it on a leash and tie it to a basket baside her so that it would always be close. She loves to curl up in anything she can find, but baskets and boxes are her favorites. We also have 3 cats now but the one is still seperated as we just rescued her from outside. We have taken her to the vet and got shots for her but we are going to have to take her to the groomer and have her shaved. She is a beautiful white persian and her long fur is a massive knot all over her. It is so bad that it is pulling away from her skin in places and she is so malnurished that the vet said her skin is real thin. We waited a couple of weeks trying to build her body up and are taking her to the groomer tomorrow. I feel terrible for her; I can't imagine doing this to any animal. We are bringing her around our other cats and dog a little at a time to keep from intimidating her.

Hi ElusiveButterfly, I have two cats but most of the time they don't get along that well. Only last week I had to warn them that they were acting too much like people LOL. Blessings.

Wow, we have three cats too - Mazeroski, BananaMae and Nova. Maz and Banana are litter mates, 4 years old and Nova is a Manx, our newest, although we've had him for 2 years now, and he's 2 years old. They're all best of friends, but Nova and Maz are crazy about each other. When we brought home Nova, he was only four weeks old, was SO tiny, didn't even know how to eat yet. He was a rescue - that's why he was so young when we brought him home. Anyway, Maz adopted him immediately. Loved him instantly. Banana Mae took a while longer to adapt, but she finally did and we have a very happy little household here now. They do love boxes, don't they? We built some shelves, carpeted, and attached them in staggering heights on the walls and they jump from one to another and across to the door post, which we also carpeted. Quite a little zoo sometimes. AND, I also shop at Aldi! I love it - no one has butter that cheap. And so many other things too. It's Aldi and Shop and Save for me. I just made a trip to both places yesterday, as a matter of fact. Funny coincidence, Aldi, cats, and Elusive Butterfly. Did you go to Pola's link and listen to the song? I did, and it was great to hear it again, although I was more than three or four years old when it came out, as opposed to Pola, who said she was that young then. As soon as I saw your name, that song came into my head. Anyway, your cats are adorable, simply lovely. Too bad I can't post any of mine - no scanner. But I think I'll send some pics to Bella or another friend and have her post them for me, soon. Hey, nice to talk with you. All the best, the happiest and the most fun.......

Cats playing in waste paper basket - This photo was taken of two of our five cats. Males Nova and Tigger love playing in waste paper baskets...and paper bags, cardboard boxes. These various free toys keep them amused...and us too!
Oh yes...a fellow cat lover. We have five...plus our big dog Cherokee. Your cats are really cute. Four of our five are siblings...barn cats that we adopted about a year and a half ago. Nexus our black female was here when the other four came and still feels a little out of the loop at times. Ours do not have a pecking order...they all co-exist in what appears to be a pretty level playing field. We have found that our cats love the free toys too. Cardboard boxes, paper bags and rolled up aluminum foil are among their favorites. Also waste paper baskets. I have included a photo of two of our three males..Nova and Tigger. Yes they are curious and endlessly entertaining!!Good to know another kitten has found a good home. So many do not. Enjoy! Raia

Aw, your kitties sound cute :) I miss having cats terribly, but with the baby I don't want to get them just yet and with my hubby being highly allergic it's probably not a good idea either, lol...though he loves cats too, he just can't breathe if he's around them...I have seen some hypoallergenic ones but for thousands of dollars i can't imagine spending that much on a cat when there are so many homeless ones. We've probably adopted a good 40 strays in my lifetime. Enjoy your cats!

Cats are so funny and playful at times, aren't they? I really enjoyed reading the cute story about your silly cats. They sound like they have a great personality. My fiance had three cats at one time. By the time we started dating, I only had the pleasure of meeting two of them, which have since been put down. Poor things. I love cats. I think they're so mellow and so good at taking care of themselves. You mentioned the subject of toys for your cats. I think cheaper (or free) toys is the way to go! My coworker said that her cat really likes the little plastic piece on a bottle of pop between the cap and the bottle itself. (It's the small, plastic ring that's hooked to the bottle cap until you break the seal.) Apparently cats really like those too! She said they have about fifty of those hidden under the couch where her cat has pushed them accidentally! Have you tried this "toy" for your cats? It comes with every bottle of pop you buy, and you can't beat the price! (LOL) Just thought I'd give you an idea of another toy you could give them to spice things up. Perhaps your cat who feels left out not being able to get into the box with the other two will enjoy the new toy. I hope that gives you a good idea for your most special pets! Thanks for sharing your adorable story about them. :)
