i went to the doctors earlier this week ..my son had a cold and was coughing alot..the thing that got me angry ..is the question..do i smoke..and in the house..yes i do..so my son has a cold because i smoke..how about ..i live in a dusty old home with a wood burning stove that heats our house..or that i live on a dirt road..with what heat we do have the ducts im sure are filthy..why is it if a child is sick it always comes back to me ..for i am a bad parent for smoking around my own house..is there nothing else that causes a cold or ear infection..or for that matter anything..is it just me..

It is OK, sunshine, be cool and calm down. When we talk to a doctor, of course, that will be the question and the answer. The most important thing now is to increase your child's antibody level or his immunity system. If you feel angry or that doctor's words really incensed you, so, this is the right time to supply and feed your children with bio-life fish oil products. Especially with this note on its container "Provides Molecularly Distilled Marine Fish Oil Concentrate Rich in Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, EPA and DHA.[for kid suitable to age)]. Or anything that you know the best to increase/enhance your kid's body immunity syatem. The best way for kid's future health life.

Sunshine, doctors are plain idoits when it comes to this. People are always talking about smokers and the damage we do, when one factory in the US puts out more cancer and lung causing illness than every smoker on the planet earth does in one day. My advice, I see you live in America, get a different doctor. Being an American we can do that if we are not happy with our childrens care. How old is your child?

i know you are upset and i would be too..my wife came back from the Philippines and she has had a bad cough for over a month. She was not subjected to second hand smoke as in the plane to the Philippines there is no smoking..and in the Philippines there was no one smoking in her presence..it was either a combination of pollution in the air, food, water, and her low immune system. The public transportation is a jeepney or a trycyle and both are opened to dusty roads and their is filth everywhere on the streets..open sewars..so i think this is the reason she is sick,,but i have not smoked for 22 years and i used to smoke for over 20 years..but i quit when i got married on the request of my wife..or i probably be still smoking today..maybe? who knows.. don't always put yourself down for smoking.my parents smoke all their life until they got old..most people i know in the old days smoked..we were brought up on the Marlborro man..right? even doctors used to smoke ...but i still get a cold now and then and i get ear infections too..and our house is pretty clean.. i think you should lighten up on yourself..oppps that was not ment to be a pun..sorry

To be honest...it is wrong to smoke in the house with your child. Don't get me wrong here. I am a smoker and I have done the same thing. I have even held a baby in one hand and a butt in the other. Over time, I have become more educated to the affects of 2nd hand smoke and now I do smoke in my home on occassion but never when my daughter is here and I also never smoke in the car with her. My moms doctor thought she was still smoking. she hadn't smoked in over 20 years but her lungs looked as if she were a smoker. My brother who lived with her smoked all the time around her. Beyond all that...Is your smoking the cause of your daughter being sick....probably not. It probably just doesnt help the problem is all.

I know what you mean! My hubby is the smoker in my house and everytime saome one asks me that it makes me feel guilty but my parents smoked around me and his parents smoked around him. I also know for a fact that other kids that have non smoking parents get the same colds...so why does it come down to the smokers always got to be the one in the wrong. I agree with you sunshine!!!Even though I am a non smoker my self.

hello sunshine. I bet the doctor was just trying to figure out what are the factors that have caused your child to cough. There are really many factors that result to coughing and what he's doing was just a form of assessment. You have mentioned about the dusts and they too are contributory factors for a person to get a cough. Cheer up! Let him drink plenty of fluids and he's gonna be okay. If the cough persists for like 3 weeks or more, you better consult a service provider cos it can indicate that he's having a bacterial infection and is needing antibiotics. I hope I am of help in this matter.:) http://www.vmarie00.blogspot.com

One of the best option is to give your son lots of water. This way, it will cleanse the internal organs. I have proven it already and it's effective. If you give him water every after 30 minutes, after two days, you will some results!
