Did I use 911 properly?

I was driving home from work, heading off the exit and in the middle of the exit a LARGE orange barrier had rolled into the middle of the exit. (It was extremely windy tonight. With it being dark, I swerved off to miss hitting it and was scared to death that I was going to hit it or something.
Immediately, I dialed 911 and told them, because I didn't know who else to call to fix this before someone got into a bad accident.
They said they'd send someone out for it. But afterward I wondered if there was someone else I should have called or was that the right choice?

I honestly have no clue whether or not you used 911 right or not. But I probably would have done the same thing. The barrier is a danger to you and other drivers since it was dark and windy and could have caused a bad accident. 911 is the one number that you know would respond fast to something like that. I would have called them or the police department, but since I know how to dial 911 and probably wouldn't know the number to the police, I probably would have stuck with 911.

I did first think to call the police, but yeah, I didn't know the number. I figured 911 was the best.
