Amelie is demented. "Say whaat?!!" you might exclaim. That was my exact reaction when a friend told me that his Psychology teacher used this film to demonstrate DEMENTIA. Graar! The transgression towards our beloved Amelie! Unforgivable!Just because one is creative and quirky and fun and witty does NOT mean one is demented. aargh.

Your friends psychology teacher is completely bonkers why would you use amelie to demonstrate dementia, that makes no sense. I wouldn't got to his class as I think he is the one that is demented.

Extremely screwed up. Amelie is a wonderful character who only tries to help others, if that is demented then I guess I am too. :D

I just found this article which also linked Amelie Poulain and dementia. I like the movie and people are free to view it whichever way they want. This point and the context of this interpretation was discussed most interestingly I think.

Mirriam Webster's online defines dementia as: a usually progressive condition (such as Alsheimer's) marked by deteriorated cognative functioning often with emptional apathy.
Obviously this does not describe the lovable, though quirky, heroine Amelie. Don't you just love the way she torments her father with the gnome travelling the globe? Other than her fighting for those who could not fight for themselves (the grocer's employee) she obviously understood one of life's greatest gifts; the pleasure of giving pleasure.

Hello! This is a very stupid thing. Not only because Amelie is a fantastic person that is able to find happyness in every day's little things, but also because this teacher has probably never met a person with dementia. Dementia is a big problem, and people that have this problem have also a very difficult life. This teacher need to stay a bit in the real world!
