I was reading in a magazine and this article about mosquitoes interest me. I want to share to you what I have read. 1. Millions of years ago, mosquitoes were three times as large as they are today. 2. Male mosquitoes are actually sensitive vegetarians, living on nectar and plant juices. Only females drink blood for protein to make eggs. It means only female mosquitoes suck blood from human and animals. 3. There is a statue of mosquitoes and the largest one is a roadside attraction found in Komarno, Manitoba, the Mosquito Capital of Canada. (Komarno is Ukrainian for "mosquito".) It is sculpted in 1984, made of steel and has a wingspan of 15 feet. See how big! 4. There are more than 2,500 varieties of mosquitoes. Some entomologists claim 3,000. It is whining from the Arctic tundra to the tropical rain forests. Most are active at dawn and dusk, while others enjoy midday feeding. 5. They rarely interbreed with their aboveground colleagues. Their DNA actually varies from one subway line to another. 6. Mosquitoes do not bite, they suck. 7. To completely drain the blood of an average human, it would need 1,200,000 mosquitoes. 8. If mosquitoes are full, a chemical signal shuts down the intake. If that is disabled in the lab, mosquitoes will continue sucking until it explode. 9. Male mosquito ears are packed with about as many sensory cells as human ears helping amorous mosquito males identify and pursue passing females. 10.
