what can you say about my husband reactions towards my teen-age son

Just recently my 16yo son went out with his friends.At 9pm we called him up to go home but he insist to be home at 1am so my hubby told him, to pick him up at 10pm.Along the way, my son texted my husband that he is already in a police station together with his 3 friends whom got a rumble.I was so nervous & cant believe it bec I know my son is not prone to that...until 3 am from the police invistigation he was just brought there bec he was the companion of the boy who boxed the complainant.When I saw my son I dont know what do, i like to punish him but before hand my husband told me that we wont nag or say bad words to him.We just talk to him about the problems.

Knock the snot out of him! That way, he'll be doubly punished, and far less likely to do it again!

i normally am aginst letting child go unpunished, but in this situation I feel that he has suffere enough givin his prison experence. I would still talk to him to know that what he faced that night is something that he never wishes to face again. I can only imagine who awful it must have been for him there and hopefuly he feels the same way and will refrain from such behaivors in the future.
