bikini cut panties for 4 year olds?

When my kids were toddlers I balked at the underwear department. Who in their right mind would want low rise or bikini cut undies for their preschooler? It seemed so cheap and seedy to think about. How things change. I figured out why they invented low rise panties in small sizes. They are for little girls like my daughter. She is 7 1/2 and weighs about 40lbs. She wears 6slim but they are huge on her and either need to be pinned up or have to have adjustable waists. I always bought her regular Disney covered undies in the smallest size that would fit her. They fit fine and all but they came all the way up her chest and always showed above the waist of her pants. That bugged the heck out of me. When she was 6 I was looking for new underwear for her and decided to try the low cut because of this problem. I got her a pack of size 4. Oh my, what a difference. Whereas the other ones fit okay...these fit perfect. They didn't sag off her back side and the waist was...at her waist, not half way up her ribcage (well, bunched down around her belly button). She said they were a lot more comfortable, too, since they weren't all saggy and bunchy on her. Then my dad picked up a pack of bikini ones for her. They fit more like a mid/low rise might on a normally shaped girl. She likes them better. They would never fit or look good on my 5yo. She wear regular brief cut ones and they fit perfectly. They don't sag and they don't bunch and the waist is at the waist. My girls have 2 very different body types. I buy almost all mid rise jeans/pants for my oldest. I never thought I would. Her waist is too low and her hips/butt nonexistent (even more then the normal 7yo) to have a regular cut pant. The low rise fit her perfectly and don't show her butt crack or look "skanky" or any other comments I've heard about that style. She looks nice and feels comfortable in them. And with her bikini undies underneath they don't show above the waist. My 5yo could never wear that style. She actually looks best in a boy cut (which she has many of). She has a fuller bottom (which is a normal body for a 5yo) and a higher waist. Whereas her sister has to have a slim to fit and look nice she could never fit her normal 5yo body into a slim. She wears a 5 regular or a 5T. A 5T fits better--they seem to have more room in the seat to account for toddlers that might not be potty trained. So next time you start to make or think a comment about how it is innapropriate for stores to sell bikini style undies and low cut pants in sizes for preschoolers remember that not every girl is shaped the same and "regular" cut looks ridiculous on them and low rise may look cheap on a normal girl but fits another girl perfectly and they are joyed to finally discover clothes that don't hang off of them or look silly.

Well Jen you know I love you. I see your point but they still don't come into our house. My SIL knows to not buy them especially for Brooke. She is lanky as you know but is mistaken as so much older. Brooke would perceive them as "sexy" (in an 8 y/o mind) & I don't need that right now.

Well, pfft, you're supposed to agree with me on everything, lol. As long as you can see that some girls are shaped differently. I wish I would have bought the low rise ones for her back when she was 4 because her undies sticking out of her pants all the time was just sloppy and sad. Of course, I don't think my kid even knows what sexy is. She won't watch kissing scenes on TV and won't discuss "couples" with me (like on Hannah Montana). She'd rather pretend dating on her shows didn't exist and she still bathes with her brother. She is just a kid. I'm kind of dreading her turning 8. Hailey is kind of goofy at 8 and says a lot of the same things Brooke does...so it must be something about being 8. I'd rather her stay innocent a while longer.

That is hilarious about "balls". Of course my girls have a brother so they know that meaning. Hailey says the same kind of silly stuff. I don't understand people that want to sexualize their kids, either. The ones that want the pants that say "cutie" across the butt and have little sassy remarks on the panties. I try to buy stuff that fits the kids and looks reasonably modest. I'm not prudish and Meagan wears some pretty short shorts because she is so freaking skinny. I never thought I'd be letting my kid wear shorts like that but when her waist is a 4T...the shorts are short. But, then again, we don't really go anywhere so she is only wearing them at home. Her new style, though, is Hannah Montana. She has this outfit my neighbor got her that is pink leggings (that come just below the knee) with a brown velor type skirt and a leopard print top with pink highlights. It looks cute and is modest. But now she wears those dang leggings and skirt every day, lol.

I know exactly what you mean, my daughter didn't fit in full cut either. My issue isn't with bikini cut, it's with thongs for girls under 12. There's no reason in the world for that. Abo-cro- (can't spell their name at all) was selling children sized thongs just a couple years ago. There's no need for that at all.

Yeah, I don't see a point in thongs and I know my girls wouldn't wear them. That seems extreme.

Ditto!! My daughter spent the summer with her bilogical father and his new wife bought her a thong! She was 9. I was pissed and the panties went in the trash!

interesting..we'll have to see what fit my daughter needs when she gets older. she wears 4t's cuz the 2-3t's are too tight. But the 4t's sag really bad!

im really glad you posted this.. because i would think bias, and not buy them.. i think i will have problems later on, because my daughter is "big" BUT i do have a problem with the name of them.. i think maybe they should change the name of the underwear. its very weird to think of a child wearing "bikini cut" undies, but if it were to be named something else then i think, and many other people would probably think differently.

Whats the big deal anyways there panties that stay under pants and noones going to see them but you and her. a lot of parents like dressing there little girls into low rise jeans so they will need low rise bikinies. I dont know what all the hype is about. I'm glad you found clothes that fit good on her I know htats hard to do these days. It would be cool if we could all go into a store and get custom fit stuff just for our bodies. I bet that would be expencive though

I'm like you - at first I was chagrined at the idea of low-rise or bikini cut undies for the young girls. But yes, they fit the fashions these days. Most pants are mid-rise to low-rise even for younger girls. It's funny because my 12 year old was complaining to me just this morning that she doesn't like her new jeans (just bought a week ago) because when she bends over they show all her underwear. Currently she wears full cut undies. I will probably have to have her try the bikini cut to see if they help. (Although I know she would rather have higher pants, not lower panties-she's very conservative). -Tink P.S. I still don't agree with the bikinis for toddlers.

I've never seen either cut for toddlers. The smallest size is a 4, which I suppose would fit a large toddler. When my girls were toddlers they wore 2T-3T or 4T. It wasn't until they were 5/6 that they started shopping in the girls section for undies. My 5yo has mostly cartoon character underwear still and white. My oldest won't wear plain white so she gives them to her sister. Kids are strange.

Ahh, I see. My girls wear 2 piece suits but not bikinis. I don't think I could get my 7yo in one, lol. Was showing her some at Target--the colors were really cute but they were all string bikini style. She was like "ewww, NO!" She picked a 1 piece but also had a 2 piece tankini with the boy short bottoms. My 5yo doesn't have the body for a bikini. She won't get in the pool anyway so she rarely puts her bathing suit on.

Er, yea I wasn't clear on my last statement: I meant I don't agree with bikini swimsuits for toddlers. I see no point in putting a 3 or 4 year old girl in a bikini top.

Did you even bother to read the entire post? The point of it was that these styles have a purpose and are not "hooker" clothes. Not all girls have the same body type and this style may be very low cut/scanty on the average shaped girl but on other's they fit perfectly whereases the full cut would be hanging off of them and look sloppy and be uncomfortable.
