Green bags? Would you use them? Do you use them.

I had been looking on line for some green bags. These are bags you take to the grocery store to use instead of paper or plastic. I actually found some decent ones at walgreens for 99 cents a peice.

I have seen them at Wal-Mart for a $1 as well. I have gotten the insulated ones for frozen things, but I have not gotten the regular canvas ones. Trader Joe's has several different types of bags at all sorts of different prices too.

I don't use them actually. It would be nice, but I can't seem to find any sturdy enough to actually hold anything. That and we usually use our plastic bags for trash bags. What we don't use goes to stores that take them for recycling so they do get recycled and don't end up in the environment somewhere.

I have shopping basket in my trunk all the time. It is much easier than shopping bags and easy to take home with wide handle. I have it for at least 6 years now....

I like that idea. I'm not so fond of buying grocery bags specific to one store or another. (Shopping at Schnucks with a Dierbergs bag, for example.) I think the store should offer some slight incentive to the use of your own bags. I don't know how that would work however.

Whole Foods stores used to, not sure if they still do, give you 10 cents off of your shopping order for every one of their paper shopping bags you brought back into the store with you to reuse for your groceries instead of getting new ones.

That's neat. I didn't know that -- probably because I don't often go to the Whole Foods Store. I went once, I think, to find some sort of gentine violet -- something like that. Purple dye which is antifungal and was used to treat a case of thrush in my infant daughter's mouth.

That's cool. I was at Wal-Mart and saw some bags there too for $1. They are suppose to hold up to 30 lbs. But their "green" bags are black.

My family has taken our canvas bags to the grocery store every week for as long as I've been alive! I believe we actually got our canvas bags at a craft store. My grandma actually has a set of canvas grocery bags that my brother and I decorated with paints when we were children. But yah, using your own grocery bags is definitely a great idea! They're usually larger and sturdier than most plastic and paper bags, so you have less bags to carry! They don't waste paper and plastic, and lots of stores will often even give you a discount on your groceries for bringing your own bags!
