I used to use only a mechanical mouse with a wheel / roller but always ended up cleaning it often. I finally got a optical mouse and find it a lot better and much more reliable. Also it squeaks a lot lesser! (Pun intended!)

the mouse that I'm using now is an optical mouse. Hope to be using a wireless one someday! ;)

I use a wireless IR optical. I love it, it gives me so much more freedom and they don't wear down. The only problem is that unless the surface is completely smooth and clean, it glitches out. It's not that hard to take care of though.

i am using an optical mouse, before it was a mechanical mouse, but i like optical mouse more, because its easy to use, and it doesnt get dirty, like the trackball for the mechanical mouse. Optical mouse is more compatible that the mechanical one.

I use an optical mouse.
I strongly encourage everyone to switch lol.
It doesn't even cost much.
I am still using the one I bought for 20USD and it has been here for YEARS.

I use the optical mouse, and it has ten color lights that change every few seconds. I dont like mechanical.

Well, with our new systems we bought a little over a year ago at work - we got mostly mechanical - they were cheaper.
I prefer the optical (which we have at home) because mechanicals tend to gather dust and dirt on the trackballs and rollers which must be cleaned off periodically. -Tink

Personally I use all optical mouses (I have a mouse for both of the computers in my house and my laptop). I used to use ball mouses, but they start to jam unlike optical mouses, and I can't use a mechanical mouse on my bed with the laptop, while an optical mouse works fine.

i used to have a roller mouse but for now i am having an optical mouse as i used to get a lot of trouble with the roller mouse as in between the ball used to get stuck and that used to make me more angry so i switched to the optical mouse.

My most recent mouse is a laser mouse.
I found the mechanical roller to unreliable because of its need to collect fuzz and such. A most annoying feature.
The optical would bounce the cursor all over the screen if there was even the smallest imperfection on the mouse pad. Not a good thing to happen in the middle of a game.
So far the laser performs very well even on uneven surfaces.
