I love discovery channel it's full of such educational and great facts and also can be sometimes scary at times. I sort of regret watching one episode about a certain date... Dec 21st, 2012. I'm not sure if most of you have watched this episode but it was about when there will be the end of lifelines for our earth. I didn't quite think about this so much before until I seen this show. If you haven't seen it I'll fill you in.. but... if these things make you uncomfortable to hear or read about I suggest you don't read this!
Apparently, on or around Dec 21st, 2012, the sun is to line up with the milky way and cause it to rotate in an opposite direction. This will cause catostrophe on earth. According to the mayia calender, there is no more lifeline after this date.
I've heard many things about this and it's terrifying for myself. How many other scares have we had about the world ending? A lot actually and no it hasn't happened but will it this time?
Will it just be an alignment for planets? Or will this be the forbidden end?

Nothing notable is going to happen on Earth in 2012. It's just as full of crap as all of the other doomsday predictions.
Behold one of several good debunkings:

Just bear with me and play the odds, okay? Doomsday has been predicted so many times, and those who predict it are ALWAYS wrong. Always.
You can't tell the future. Anyone who claims to is either full of crap or was lied to by someone full of crap.

I guess nothing lasts forever and sooner or later our world will end. You only have to look at the way the weather patterns are changing, global warming and the depletion of natural resources. Volcanos erupting, earthquakes shaking the earth's crust, tsunamis and hurricanes, it all seems to indicate that something is not right with the earth.
I doubt if anything mankind can do will stave off the inevitable but it's unlikely to happen for thousands of years.

yep, this is the last day of the mayan calendar - so if they were right it certainly will be the end of the world. there's no way to know for sure, but i say let's all live it up with no regrets in the meantime. oh and yeah, nothing but love for the discovery channel.

I watched that program too and found it fascinating more than frightening. I don't know if it will be the end of the world, the end of human life or an event that will change the way we live those lives. As you say there have been many predictions about the 'end' of the world, the last one was 31st December 1999 but we woke up on the 1st of January 2000 and nothing had changed.
I don't let it scare me simply because there is nothing I can do to stop events! I know that I'll die one day but the how, when and what it will be like I can't predict. It's the same for us all and that too is terrifying but only if we let it be. My attitude therefore is enjoy the life you have and let the future unfold as it will! Concentrate not on what might be but on what is!

[i]what the discovery channel is trying to say is only theoretical...
