America, the home of the Great American Songwriters, Composers, and Lyricists, of the 20's, 30,s and 40's
Since I was 19 years old, im 59 now, here in the UK, ive studied the lives and works of people like Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Frank Loesser, Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Oscar Hammerstein 2nd, Sammy Cahn, George and Ira Gershwin, together with a host of their contemporaries who created the Great American Songbook, and of course, Francis Albert Sinatra, the greatest interpreter of the great American songbook, ever.
How much do you know about these fabulous songwriters
many of whom were Jewish immigrants who fled to America in the 19th Century to escape tyranny in their homelands, and do battle with the english language to carve out their place in American history?
