I am not a big fan of "small talk." I much prefer to have indepth conversations with friends about topics that I enjoy talking about. I try and avoid small talk with people as I run out of things to say and feel awkward. How do you feel about small talk? What topics do you talk about? i.e - the weather, how was your day?

I am not really big on small talk myself. Like you, I would prefer to have an in depth conversation. I think this is why I have so few friends in real life. I just want to cut past the junk and get to the sharing of real life.

Hey blueunicorn, thanks for your response. It is better to have few quality friends then lots of acquantences that you hardly know.

am the same here more indepth conversations are so much more interesting-i like to talk about psychology,spirituality,-i do have a friend who is an anthropologist he is so interesting to talk to and is very knowledgeable about all sorts-he also likes bugs (ugh) and when asked which ones do what and there functions in life he is able to explain amongst many other things-another friend has a horses yard but loves history-doesn't matter what country or where but he is also very indepth when we talk too anything about horses and jockeys as well he can answer going back years-so small talk to me is just that and very boring blessed be littleowl

I am with you little owl, I enjoy having in depth conversations about spirituality and psychology, it is really fascinating. There is always so much to learn about these topics. Small talk is definately boring, if only we could fastforward all small talk and cut to the chase. Thanks for your reply!!

I am totally with you. I have a difficult time with small talk because I always run out of things to talk about and you get that akward silence where nobody knows what to say. I would always prefer a long in depth conversation to small talk any time. I personally believe that someone that can't have an in depth conversation isn't anybody that I really want to talk to anyway. I am the kind of person that likes to argue with my friends about politics, religion, and the war in Iraq. I wish more people were brave enough to have those kinds of conversations.

Hey, thanks for your comments. I hate those awkward silences too. I always run out of things to say aswell, there is only so much one can say about the weather lol. You sound like you would communicate well with my partner, he loves discussing war and politics. I think some people aren't brave enough to have those conversations on the topics you mentioned as they might not have enough knowledge and therefore do not want to offend anyone.

Yeah... i am really enjoy to have a "small talk" with people, even the stranger people. I can easily talk with them, since i can know more about new persons, their stories, experiences, or else. Talk with new people, can also open our mind with new perspective of life. But not all new people, because sometimes, you will also meet "weirdo" in the street... ahaha... All i say to them usually "hi, how are you... are you doing good?, wow... nice dress...or else"... ahehehehe

i hate small talk - especially having to fake enthusiasm about yet another weather related conversation. i'd rather it be acceptable to just sit in silence sometimes rather than always trying to fill that space with meaningless chatter. but if you're really forced to make conversation with someone, i've found it's easiest to just ask people about themselves... almost everyone is narcissistic enough to love that topic!

Good point people always love talking about themselves!!! I often ask lots of questions about the other person when stuck what to say. Thanks for your comments, I will make sure I don't ask you about the weather, (he he).

Yeah,I totally agree with you.Actually I don't like "small talk" either.Maybe in my mind,it just a way of kill time. But actually "small talk" is necessary sometimes,we can't deny it though we dislike it .Since you know,it is a way to make acquaintance with someone we want to know.I do like to chat with friends based on the common interests or topics.I am a big fan of "English",and you know, I am not a native speaker, and my englsilh is not good enough,so I always choice some topics related to "english "with my friends.I always believe that "a freind in need is a freind in deed."

Small talk really doesn't bother me too much. I mean, sometimes it can be interesting and it shows that you are friendly and aren't antisocial like so many people are now. Small talk doesn't hurt anyone, and really, if you don't know them, then small talk is pretty common.

Holy no! lol... I hate small talks. As much as possible, I try to avoid them. But when need be, no real choice there, isn't it? :P
