Honestly my favorite years of high school would have to have been grade 12. Cliché? That would have been 2002-2005! hahaha - a couple victory laps. But I pretty much redid all of high school in those three years. I passed with something close to 19 surplus credits. I never failed a class, but just kept coming back.
I had allot of freedom being the older kid in school, and I think I really liked just being able to do whatever I wanted. It's strange how I went to class more often and genuinely tried harder once I had the choice to leave. I guess it was my way of rebelling - fight to get out and then refuse to leave when they don't want you anymore.
Those were really the last sane years of my life. Everything started to change so fast after that.
I think everyone has that moment in their lives when the world just snaps like a rubber band and everything blasts off, leaving you in a vapor trail of exhaust. We're grownups now; how did that happen?
I think I'm beginning to understand why older people have such sore backs and knees; from carrying a personal world, no, an entire universe of their own on their shoulders. The collective child mind has split and we are not all together anymore. No more caravan of helpful bodies and entire support teams at every corner. No more Mum and Dad to lean on every day of the year. We are grown ups. We carry our own pains and fears. We eventually start to hunch or limp a little, and then we go slower and every step we have to be more and more careful not to drop this massive reality, or risk snapping the elastic one more time. The little rubber band that holds one's mind together.
I was convinced that being a teenager was the worst ever, and that all the adults were full of b.s. when they would say that these were our best years, and that they would die to be 18 again. I thought this at the time, but I guess like most people, I grew up. And now I can say, those were very amazing years, and that if it weren't for my amazing girlfriend who I love completely and utterly, and look forward to spending the rest of my life with, I would also be able to say, I would die to be 18 again.

I think grade 10 was probably my favourite year of high school. So that would have also been 2000-2001. Maybe it was just a good year in general? Socially things were really good, I was happier than I had been in a long time. High school in general was pretty rough for me.
