Hi All!
My name sounds like a famous local fruit in my own language. When I was a kid, friends used to tease me. I wasn't angry but I always think why my parents chose that name for me. I never asked them why as I was afraid that I would hurt them for not liking the name.
One day, I jokingly asked my late brother. He told me that it wasn't my parents who chose the name for me but it was him. In fact, he had a better name for me but he decided to choose that name as it sounds 'famous' and easier to pronounce. Unfortunately, the person who registered my name, simply added another alphabet to it and because of that, it sounds like the local fruit!
I remember I told my brother this, "You should shout and spell my name clearly to that person, maybe she is half deaf!" He just laughed at me.
But when I am getting older, I don't bother about my name anymore and I don't have an intention to change it. I love it so much and not so many people have a nice name like me!
Do you have any story to share with me and the rest here about your name?

My name was given by older brother as well. Named after a neighbour who was close friends with him at the time. I never liked my name much, Eduardo. I prefer Ed much better. I had kids in elementary school teasing me about my last name "pimenta" which means pepper. Though, shortly I started laughing along with them, even today I still joke about it sometimes. Like "When I get my PhD I will become Dr Pepper".
My family is of Portuguese lineage, and I learnt that at the time Jewish traders were named after the spices the were trading. Thats why in Brazil (in Portugal too probably), today, we see a lot of people called Oliveira (olives), Carvalho (oak), Pereira (pear), etc.
Finally, there also a lot of people with weird names like Madinusa (read mah-dee-noo-zah). Some house maid said she used to read "Made in U.S.A." on clothes tags at the household where she used to work, and named her daughter after it. Caught on.

Hello EdMagal,
*Laughs* It's funny. Made-in-USA as a name? That's really weird to me. I just want to laugh when I read your response. By the way, yours sounds OK to me - be it Eduardo or Ed, I like your name. Isn't it amazing when you become Dr.Pepper one day? *smiles*

Hello EdMagal,
No, I didn't mention it here. By the way, it is in my mother tongue language that it sounds like a famous local fruit. I seldom use my official name; not because I feel ashamed of it (not anymore) but it is less necessary unless it is related to something official. People close to me prefer to call my short name which was actually the right name that my late brother chose for me. Have a great day!

juice ko gr8life! your post really got me into thinking! not just me but my officemate and a client! LOL i can't think of a name that sounds like a fruit. ^__^;; and then i started thinking about fruits in our country and nothing seemed to fit as a name. like makopa, rambutan, lanzones, santol, bayabas/guava, aratilis, langka, pakwan/watermelon, durian, duhat, tiesa, etc. LOL can you imagine if your name was aratilis?? LOL the best thing i thought of was "milon" although its really melon but if you consider "milon", milo would be a good name. ^__^;;
anyway... the only thing i can say about my name is that it is too long. my first name has 12 letters and my last name has 10 letters. my first name is a 2-name combination so when you consider the space between it, there are actually 13 letters in my name. and add all the spaces between the first name the middle initial and last name, my whole name has 27 characters! period included. ^__^;; a lot of people had told me that my mom wanted me to have a hard time writing so she made my first name long. .

LOL yeah! i did. not only me. but an officemate and a client too. ^__^;; i was just so curious about it. it's a nice idea to name someone with a fruit name. LOL hmmm... strawberry would be a sweet name. ^__^;;
i know! i think its the fad now. naming babies with two or three first names. my first degree nephews and nieces have two to three names. i can imagine how ninya katherina laiza gets a hard time writing her name. ^__^;;
LOL you thought of your son would have a hard time flirting with girls if you give him a long name?? LOL that's really funny! ^__^;;
i had a hard time introducing myself too. it always feels awkward to give my full first name. its too lengthy to say. .

Hello secretbear,
You made me laugh! You really think hard of what my name supposed to be? Well, it is in my mother tongue language. In fact, I have a very nice name if not because of that one person who added an alphabet to my name. I won't forgive him *laughs* Just kidding... I don't even know who he is and whether he is still alive or not!
Well, your name really 'heavy'huh? I think my other siblings really gone crazy for naming their children with at least two names (first and middle) and some has three names not including their father's name!
As for my son, I made it easier for him. He has two short names too (Ha Ha Ha) but each has 4 alphabets only. Before I get a name for him, I have decided that he won't face any trouble while flirting with girls later. I don't want him to take hours to introduce himself!

That is a very nice story... my parent wanted to name me April... but my late paternal grandmother go the upper hand so i was given a very old fashioned Catholic name... i wasn't teased for it but most people say that my physical appearance and personality doesn't fit my name...
But i love my name since i share it with a lot of saints and even some great women in history... i definitely will not change it...

Hello aseretdd,
Now I realize that name is just a name. It's a way to differentiate you from others. I love my name more now though I hate the sound of it which is similar to the fruit name. Anyway, I seldom use my official name. Family, friends and colleagues call me by my short name :)

My name doesn't sound very special or funny around here. My name is just boring *laughs*. Around here, I seldom use our Chinese name because it's not so easy for other people to remember, that's why we have those "Christian" names. But sometimes I do come across some really funny Chinese names, and most of the time, I would think if their parents were having a joke!

Hello wondericequeen,
I hate when those naughty kids laughed at me because of my name. But, since I was so timid and quiet, I didn't fight back *laughs* I should make a joke about their names too! When I get older, I think my name is unique *smiles* By the way, the real name that I gave to you, is supposed to be my original name chosen by my late brother. I seldom use my official name unless being asked for *laughs*

Well, my mother wanted to name me Heather Nicole, but my father was insistent on my middle name being Rochelle, so I got stuck with that middle name. I like my first name though, so it worked out well I reckon. Of course when i married my first husband, my middle name and my last name ryhmed and i absolutely hated it, but it worked out as well cause we got divorced and now my name sounds really good with my current husband. thanks for sharing and God bless

Hello asgtswife04,
You have a nice name. My name supposed to be nice too but unfortunately, the person who registered my birth simply added another alphabet to it. Until now, I prefer to use my original name (that was originally chosen by my late brother) instead of my official name. Anyway, I don't feel ashame with my official name anymore, not like when I was a small kid. I love it and now, I know that it is a very unique name.

My name is nothing as glamorous as all that. I was named after my great-grandfather. It's sort of a tradition in our family. It honors those who are no longer with us. And It's a great way to carry on that persons memory. I think it's nice. Gives that family member a little more immortality.

Hello ersmommy1,
Thanks for your response. My late brother told me that he had another choice of name for me. The name has something related to my late grandmother too. But he chose the other one (my name now) as he thought it is more appropriate for a chubby little girl like me *laughs*

I was born at a Catholic Hospital. My mother overheard the Nuns talking about how wonderful Sister Theresa was.
She named me Theresa.

I have an odd name as well and I have been teased all of my life but it never upset me because I would rather have a unique name that no one else has instead of being named those overly boring used names like lisa, sarah, michelle, or monica. When someone says my name it causes people to want to ask me questions about my name because even though it sounds funny it's interesting. Nobody ask questions about a girl named tiffany. So love your name its unique and special.

Hello girlly1,
I don't feel ashame with my name anymore. When I was a kid, whenever I had to introduce myself, I felt ashamed as I was afraid other kids will laugh at my name. But thinking of it now, I think mine is a good name and it is very very seldom for you to meet others with the same name like mine.
