The United States of America was born from the idea of liberty. The founders of the nation created a Constitutional Republic with a written constitution serving as the tool to protect liberty. The founders and other Americans as that time openly discussed liberty, and the threats to liberty. The founders discussed, debated and agonized over how best to preserve liberty for future generations. They studied governmments and history to see what would fits in the best with a free society. It was not easy leaving time honored traditions and viewpoints, but these founding fathers of the American Republic were sturdy, self-determined, independent people. They loved liberty because of all the opportunities possible in a free society. Liberty was America's greatness. For over the first 100 years the United States was prosperous, and liberty was stronger. It was more acceptable to defend liberty. With some limitation people could say what they wanted, write what they wanted, assemble, and bear arms. People could build homes without permits, work in trades without having to have a license, live anywhere with almost no crime and certainly no drugs and gangs, be able to affordably live with one spouse working, and take home all the salary without having to pay income tax.
Although, there is still much liberty today, it is not a pressing subject discussed in social or business circles. There is big government today that regulates almost every aspect of our human lives. With big government the necessary consequence is less liberty. Both government and liberty are two opposing forces. Government is about mortal power, and liberty is about individual rights from the Creator of the universe. The purpose of the United States Constitution is to limit government power to primarily poviding for the defence of a free people.
Could we not all read, study, and come together to share and read together the Constitution and other early documents that made the United State great and unique in the world? It is a fact that no place on earth had or has a Constitutional Republic with such strong relationship to the idea of liberty.

I realize that this is an old thread, but it's a great topic. Many people do not know that we actually live in a Republic, and not a democracy. Many people do not understand the implications of a democracy (majority rule, or mobocracy). If you believe in personal freedom do not vote for bans of any kind. Respect private property rights. Don't tell your neighbor how to raise their children. Take your children out of public school where they are being indocrinated into a liberal, socialist, marxist agenda. Support freedom whenever you can.
