Does not mean you know how to drive in bad weather.
As some of you know by my other posts last night, the weather was horrible for drivers last night. One thing that always amazes me (and my father-in-law likes to point out because I DO have an SUV) is that there are always a lot of SUV's in accidents during bad weather. Some people think that SUV's are the key to being able to drive in winter weather. Well, they do "help" but if you don't understand some of the basics for driving in snow/ice, then driving an SUV can be more dangerous than driving a regular car.
I have heard so many people say "Well, I have an SUV so I wont get stuck." They think they are invincible and that causes more accidents in and of itself.

I Love my SUV but.... I sure don't take it for granted that it's going to out perform any other vehicle on the road during rainy weather. #1. It's not 4WD, #2- it tends to be top heavy and so when the winds are blowing like crazy (We get Santa Ana winds here) - I take it really slow and allpow plenty of room between me and the next guy.

Well, mine is a 4WD, but I really haven't used that part of it. I normally leave it in regular - except when I go to my uncles because it's kinda off-road to get there. I try to treat any vehicle like it's not meant for bad weather driving, it doesn't know how to drive, I do, and not everyone out there knows how to handle the car in bad weather. It's like they depend on the car to know what to do.
