Recently I have found if I put all my whites and all my darks in different baskets its alot easier. It save me alot of time when I actually do my laundry. I use to just throw everything in one basket and sort it as I did the laundry. So tell me do you sort your laundry before or do you wait untill you do your laundry?

You know what Terry, hhehe i dont even bother to sort the laundry into white and darks anymore. I dont have that many whites, the only thing i have that are whites are undergarnments and WHO cares if they get a little greyed. I do sort the baby stuff from the adult stuff though, i keep it seperate all the time she has her own little hamper we put her clothes in. Only because we wash her clothes in baby soap still cause the little muffin is sensitive *giggles*

I use just one laundry basket..and a separate one for the baby. Though your way sounds easier, my husband and son drop their laundry in the basket themselves and I doubt if they will be willing to sort it when they put their clothes in the basket. I know how much work I had to do to get them to put it in ONE basket. Asking them to sort would be a big task!

I wish I had enough space for separate baskets. I would prefer to sort it before washing because then I could just throw it all in the machine.
I suspect that my partner would still manage to throw things in the wrong basket. He tells me he has emptied the pocket and I still find bits of tissue in the machine after the wash has finished!

Hello there, long time no see! Hope you are ok. The amount of times my housemate forgot to check his trouser pockets and the amount of times he left dirty tissues etc in them and it was a nightmare cos all the clothes would end up covered in white bits which were hell to get off!

I have always separated my laundry. Work uniforms, casual clothes, whites, light colored vs. dark colored, etc. I use different amounts of soap depending on the garments' level of use and soil. And different temperatures. And yes, even different laundry soaps. And I even spot-clean and pre-soak. I do this to get the maximum cleaning that I can out of each load. So it does take me longer to do laundry, but I am happy with the outcome. I actually have to look to see which is front and back, if you know what I mean.

i don't sort my laundry by color actually, i sort them by type. like all sleeveless in one area and pants on the other. anyway, i'm not the one's going to do my laundry after all so it doesn't concerns me if my clothes are not separated by colors. hehehe.. and besides, i don't have clothes that will stain my others so no problem on mixing them in a washing machine.

I sort as I go, which is everyday. I do 3 to 4 loads a day- who knows why? I do darks, whites, then my daughter has a lot of pink and purple so I wash that separately. Then my little boy has a lot of light blue and green so I do that together. I'm ridiculous with my sorting, but my kids clothes always look new because I don't mix them. I still use Dreft on their clothes and they're not even babies anymore but I love the smell, LOL
So, have I told you enough about my laundry, terryz? LOL

Well my other half does the laundry these days as I can't bend down to do it but I can just imagine anyone trying to maks sure the kids or the other half sorted it in seperate sections 0 it is hard enough to get them to put their laundry in the basket in the first place! In other words we just sort load as they are ready to go in the machine - wish we were as organised as you! xxx

Hi Terry...I seperate the clothes while I'm doing the washing. I take one load at a time to the basement. When I wash a load of whites, I take the whites to the basement, when I wash jeans, I take them. That way there isn't too many piles ant once. It seems I was clothes everyday between all our clothes, sheets, and towels. I also wash my brothers clothes for him because he doesn't have a washer and dryer. So he brings them over about once a week and picks them up when I'm finished.

Mornin' there Sugarplum,..nice to see you back, I missed you.
I only have a tiny bit of laundry to do weekly so it doesn't take me long to sort it out, haha. It's just my clothes and at work I have to wear black pants and a shirt from the company, so it's pretty easy.
I just sort it out when I'm going to do laundry, it only takes a minute for me.

i don't. i just put them in the same basket. but i fold it before doing so. when it's laundry time it is easier to sort them because they're folded already.

I was always responsible for the laundry, the washing machine was my baby! So I got to do the laundry when I wanted to do it. I would do a white wash one day and I would go through the laundry basket and everything non-coloured would go into the basket to be taken down to be washed, then I'd do the colours afterwards, I would sort them before prior to a wash, besides my housemate wasn't very colour coordinated. The one thing I refused to do was handwash, a lot of his clothes used to be handwashed only and they remained at the bottom of the laundry basket sometimes for months LOL!

Years ago I started sorting the laundry before I actually washed. I keep three baskets near the wash area. One for light colors, one for dark colors and the other for towels and washcloths. I also make sure all pockets are empty before tossing into the baskets so the actual chore is much faster. We had 3 girls at home so I was always washing something. Plus they played sports which made for alot of extra dirty clothes.

In a perfect world My friend, this would be an ideal situation. I am however just lucky to get the men in my life to just put their dirty clothes in the hamper. So I sort upon going into the washing machine.

I usually separate my whites and colors before I put our laundry in the laundry room.

Yes I sort my laundry as it gets dirty and I also have two laundry baskets and do the same as you. Another thing I do is I make sure all the clothes are in the baskets the right side out. I hate it when I am doing the laundry and the Tshirts and such are inside out and I have to turn them the other way before putting them in the washing machine. I have finally trained my husband to make sure his shirts are the right way when he puts them in the laundry baskets, because if he doesn't they get washed inside out and then of course they don't always get clean especially if they have food on them. This also saves me a lot of time when I am doing the laundry.

Oh and socks, dirty grimy socks. I hate to handle them after they sat in the laundry basket for a few days and then I have to turn them the right way. Yuk, just thinking about touching them gives me the creeps since my husbands socks are always so stinky because he wears work boots every day.

Multiple baskets? Yeah right. I own a bunch of plain white t-shrits, but the rest are dark colored shirts and blue jeans. I just throw everything in, put the washing machine on cold, and use a little more detergent.
I hate doing laundry, so the simpler, the better.
