Try liferay portal. Similar to Joomla but rather than just being a CMS only, it is a true eBusiness portal. I had a lot to do with open-source in the past 10 years, and fiund that it is exteremly important that the open-source system sticks to an open standard. In case of Liferay it is a Portal Specification by Sun Microsystems. This gives significant advantages to the end-user in terms of feature availability as well as making you less dependent on product provider. As Liferay is open-spec'ed portal, a very large number of so-called portlets is available on the market, free & open-source & commercial. Just take those portlets and deploy them on your portal in real-time. If you need to switch from Liferay to another portal, all you have to do is install those portlets in a portal from new provider, eg. JBoss (open-source), WebSphere (commercial IBM), etc You can also create your own portlets that run your own business-specific functionality. By the way, you will be able to sell them to other users which run open-spec'ed portals. For example, in our company (http://www.myoffice24x7.com) we have made significant effort in bringing full ERMS (electronic records management), eBilling, RFID (Radio Frequency ID), GeoLocation, mobile comms, security, business intelligence and other capabilities under the single portal umbrella. Building a new portlet is now a fairly straightforward process. So it is worthwhile checking open-source eBusiness portals.
