What Would the World Be Like if Every Christian Followed Jesus' Teachings?

I read somewhere that Mahatma Gandhi said he liked Jesus Christ but not Christians. He was referring to the fact that some Christians do not follow what Jesus actually taught. However, I know of a couple of famous Christians who did practice what they preached - Mother Teresa and St. Francis of Assisi. I believe even Lenin said that if there were more people like St. Francis, there would not be a need for a revolution. So I'd like to ask everyone out there, "If people who claimed to be Christian actually practiced the authentic teachings of Jesus Christ, what would happen? What would the world be like?"

Just to clarify, the quote was goes like this:
"I would be a Christian, if it werent for the Christians."
It originated from a time in Gandhi was curious about the teachings of Jesus Christ. He visited a church in Calcutta, but was turned away because the sermon underway was for "high caste" Indians and "White people" only.
He turned away and never looked back at the religion of Christ.
To answer your question, the world would be a very different place... in fact alot different than most Christians today would think. The modern day church has done a fantastic job of dragging Jesus through the mud in thier own greedy quest for power and dominion.
Thats one reason I wouldnt mind going to hell. At least Gandhi will be there with me!!

It is a great shame that Christians who called themselves followers of Jesus don't really practise what he teaches. However, I would request you to look at Christ himself and makes choices. I would add though that this is not an excuse for a Christians to live life different from what Jesus taught.

The world would be a wonderful place if everyone followed the teachings of the Prophet they claim to follow. Whether they be Christians following the teachings of Jesus or Hindus following the teachings of Krishna. All of the Prophets demonstrated the love of God therefore their followers should too. Unfortunately, many of their teachings have been so distorted by clergy that it is difficult to know what the true teachings of the manifestation are anymore.

There was a time when I refused to call myself Christian for just this reason. But I decided to not let the extremists take my faith from me. I am a Christian BECUASE I follow his teachings. I do believe in his divinity, but it is his teachings that make me a follower. I despise the hypocrites and the Followers of Paul as Messiah.

Obviously you have never listened to most of the Christian right. They go from the OT, skip over the teachings of Jesus all together and go straight to Romans, Corinthians, etc. Their savior is Paul, not Jesus. If their savior was Jesus, they would emphasize his words.

If we correctly understand Jesus' teaching and apply them to our lives, the world will see justice, love, peace, forgiveness... utopia.
I think two reasons are for not seeing that. First, wrong interpretation like someone above did. Second, not applying in our lives.

The problem here is the Old Testament. It had a lot of teachings and laws that were for a younger human race. Once we had incorporated the spirit of these laws into our social conscience it was time to move on.
This is when Christ came to Earth, to give us the new laws. We no longer need the old ones, they should be ignored and the new ways put in their place.
Christ's teachings were less rigid, there is more freedom of personal choice. There is one basic tennant; to love. How can we go wrong here??
The Christian world needs to let go of the Old Testament. It is not our book but part of that of the Hebrews. CHRISTians should follow the teachings of CHRIST.
Alas... it's not going to get through to the conservative masses. These people are not Christians. They follow whichever laws they want and pick and chose the right Biblical quotes (almost always from the OT) to support their own personal beliefs.
Well, that's my opinion :P
And I like St. Francis *is her middle name, spelt exactly the same way* lol

Eugh... sorry for the double post.
Have you read any Apocryphal books (well, pieces of) from the NT? Jesus was a little tear away as a child! The amount of people he killed and maimed... especially his teachers! But he brought them all back when people started believing.

AAW, somewhere is the Gospel, Jesus said that He came not bring peace but sword. Indeed, even Christians who profess to be Christians are always disagreeing and arguing. Consequently, many seek answers in other paths and look at Christianity as all the more confusing or misleading. But it is not. If Mahatma Gandhi said he liked Jesus Christ, he should have sought Christ's way and showed how it is to be a Christian. Francis of Assisi defied his own beginnings and fought for us to literally see what a Christian must be. So did Mother Teresa. It is when we live our faith in our daily lives can we call ourselves Christians. If someone cannot give his all for his neighbor, he has no right to call himself a Christian.

As a Christian, I have often pondered this question, stating, "If people who say they follow the Christian faith did what is said in the Bible, you couldn't drive a car down any street in any town because there would be so many people mingling through the streets you couldn't get through.
What would the world be like? I think it would be filled with a lot of love and friendship instead of hate and discontent.
It only goes to prove who is in control of not only Christians, but people of every religion. Makes me wonder why you chose only the Christians to question.
It's in every person who claims any type of faith.

I would dare to say that the whole place would be a much better place.
HE promised that when two or more people gather in HIS NAME , HE would be amongst them.
It would be nice if all gathered in HIS NAME.
It would be a formidable group of people, that would bring betterment over them.

If every Christian folllowed the teaching of Christ, I think the earth we live in is a paradise. There are a lot of good followers of Jesus all around the world and they are helping mankind in one way or another. Yes, Mother Teresa and St. Francis are two good example. Many deserve to be "a saint" and only God knows who deserve the title.
