Did anyone hear about Jason Kidd going to Dallas Mavericks?

I read that Jason Kidd is being traded to Dallas for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Sagana Diop and some future first round picks. I know he's a hall of fame player and a great point guard. But isn't he past his prime?
On the other side of the trade, Dallas is giving up their future star in Harris, a great sixth man in Stack and a great defensive center in Diop. Plus Dallas is giving up some future first rounders. How can they make this deal?
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is a great businessman and has acquired some great players since buying the franchise. This, on the other hand, sounds like betting the farm on someone's past history, not his current abilities.
What's your opinion? Did Dallas get the short end of the stick?

Well for the moment ol' Devean George is halting the deal from occuring...
But if they do regroup, and work out a deal and JKidd becomes a Mav, I believe it would be a mistake.
My take is that this move would be wishful thinking.
Fist and foremost you would be giving up your future for a couple years of solid ball. Not championship contention, just solid ball.
Kidd is not getting old, he is old. And will only give you what is left in his tank. On the other hand Harris is a bright baller that is only at the start of his splendor. He is not as good as Kidd but he holds up the fort just as well. So why trade for arguable the same amount of talent at the guard position. Granted I would like this trade only for the one thing that he brings, finals experience and mental toughness that dallas lacks.
But also, they are giving up their only strong big in Diop. They would only be left with Dampier. Dampier?? I mean the mavs are going to go thru teams that are filled with big men. Lakers hold the monster possible combo of Gasol and Bynum. The Suns now have Amare and Shaq. The spurs have humberto and Duncan. Even the Jazz has a combo of Boozer and Mehmet Okur. So not only are they not trading for a big.. but they are giving up the only one they have.
Plus, Kidd is making big time bucks... for a 36 year old..
In my opinion the Mavs are going trade crazy because of the Lakers and Suns, and are in fact making their situation worse. If they do get Kidd they better hope that they become spectacular this year, because teams are gonna get better the next few years..
The lakers are staked. The Jazz have a solid core group. Trail Blazers are playing solid ball, and will gain the production of Oden next season. Etc.. Etc..
So if they make this move, they going for all or nothing. Which in the basketball world, I think its not too smart.

Both Kidd and Dallas are hungry for a championship. Both were able to reached the finals but has never won the championship.
Dallas is desperate right now. With Lakers getting Gasol in one of the most broken trade in NBA history. They need to make some moves to improve their lineup.
They believe that getting Kidd will give them the leadership quality that is missing from their players. I know they have some of the best talents in NBA but you can't have all the good quality. But they will be giving out a lot in getting Kidd.
They will be trading their future and would thin out their front line. On the other hand yes they will be a solid team, yes they will be a better team with Kidd around but for how long? And will this move make them the best in the West?

Jason Kidd is not overpaid. he has no team around him and makes everyone better.. stackhouse is not involved in the trade anymore.. I think this trade will help dallas alot. but the west is still stacked. As for the hornets they arent looking so tuff anymore with all the big trades headed to the west....

thank you finally someone agrees that hes not over paid...
yes his fg % is down but thats never been his strength anyways.. but a PG that can out rebound alot of big men in the league makes up for his lack of shooting. and even though hes old he still gets up and down the floor nicely and hasnt lost much defense..

Jason Kidd is a certain hall of famer. And maybe he's not overpaid. But he is over the hill. This year he's shooting 36% from the field. That's not good. He's 36 years old. That's a dinosaur in the sports world.
But, if Dallas hasn't won the big one with the superstars they've got, Kidd might be the missing ingredient. His leadership, motivation, professionalism and championship experience may lift Cuban's team. The Mavs definitely need someone to get their heads out of their rear ends. And we all know Nowitzki's not up to the task. Kidd might be.

I wonder if Cuban thinks Kidd will make Dirk a better player, and maybe their first unit a better all around unit.
But I think you are right, they over paid for Kidd. He is too flawed a star to give up so much.
What's the deal with the NBA? It seems like they are trading stars like they are basketball cards lately. Wasn't Shaq just traded a few weeks ago or something?

I think its funny that Devean George is giving the Mavs fits.. Like he use to give Laker fans...
