What do you think of the new form of exercise, pole dancing?

Here in Australia, pole dancing is becoming a popular form of exercise. I have no doubt it would be a great work out for your abdominals and arms. Women (not strippers) are even starting to purchase their own pole for home to practice their pole dancing. What do you think of this type of exercise? WOuld you give it a go? Or do you see it as something only strippers do?

I have seen many posts and blogs on various weight loss sites by those who have had great success in the use of pole dancing and belly dancing as a way to tone and tighten their core body muscles (abdominal and back muscles). I'm sure it is a great way to work out those muscles. I would love to be able to tone my core muscles, but I'm not sure I have the agility and self-confidence to use pole dancing as my method!

THanks for your response, crazynurse. I used to do belly dancing, it was a great way to tone up and a lot of fun too. Yeah I am not sure about doing pole dancing as I will be embarassed doing it in front of other people. It depends on if the rest of the group is beginners.

Actually pole work is FABULOUS exercise!! I use to do LOTS of it when i was stripping HOWEVER it is NOT something to be taken lightly meaning you CAN and will hurt yourself if you arent careful!! It really IS a GREAT workout though...

Thanks for the advice, I am sure it could be quite dangerous if not done properly.

Hi there kiran1978! I think that pole dancing can be a really fun and effective kind of exercise. I like dancing and I don't see it as something that's for strippers only. I don't think it'll look like that if you do it at home and you don't get paid for it.

I agree littleowl, I think it would work alot more muscles then most forms of other exercises. Your arms and stomach would definately be aching the next day. Thanks for your response.

i have seen shows about that on tv. i not really sure if they have it around the area that i live, i haven't really checked. but i think its a great way to exercise. most people don't like to exercise because its boring!! who wants to do 100 sit ups a day? this type of exercise i would consider in the future.

I agree with you the more fun the exercise the more likely we are to keep going. Good point!! Maybe if they don't have it in your area, you could buy vid on it and practice at home if you have a pole. Thanks for your response.
