Can you explain how it is that one`s will is/becomes free?

Ultimately this is a philosophical question. It is in fact one that many have a hard time with because our world is so deterministic. By that I mean that everything has a cause and effect. To argue against this is usually to argue for randomness in which things are caused by nothing. Did you really freely decide to have ice cream, or did pleasure neurons in your brain *cause* you to desire it. Evidence leads me to believe that everything is caused by something and therefore, no, we do not have free will. Your Will will never be free, it never really existed.

What if one was not to respond based on emotions or conditioned thought?
