for some it's about dating. For me valentines day reminds us that love is the greatest thing we could share and we could have.
How about you, what do you think is the real essence of Valentines Day?

I'm afraid I have a very cynical view of valentine's day. I think it's another opportunity for companies to extort money out of people, although it's not quite like fathers day which really was just to make an occasion to spend money, although it is nice to treat your father, but I'd still very much avoid gimmiky cards and stuff. I'm single but I believe that I'd actually dislike vallentine's if I wasn't! You shouldn't need a special occasion to show your love. It should be a natural instinct and I hate couples :P Never want to be one!

Yeah. I suppose I sort of expressed my opinion badly! I think that the hype up to the day is for the companies selling the stuff. It's the way that it seems difficult to take something seriously when you know that there is someone who is doing it primarily for the money. I don't directly have a problem with capitalism as such but it makes me feel un-cumfortable seeing people spending so much money on things and thinking that they will represent their feelings. By the same principal it annoys me when people buy things in shops which someone's mass-produced with a joke or something which thousands of other people will have and claiming that "it reflects my personallity". I have a lot of anger in me!! :)
