Hello everyone. I am looking for some new ways to fix canned salmon. I have used it in soup and made it into patties and loaf. So I'm wondering if any one has a different way to fix it? Thanks ahead of time for all ideas.

Two things dee... You can mix it up like you would tuna for tuna sandwiches......and have salmon sandwiches. It's good. The other is you can drain it well.....then add it to a tossed salad. That's pretty awesome. We eat a lot of salmon in our house. Salmon patties are my favorite...but I love the salad and sandwiches. The sandwiches are best on toasted submarine sandwich bread.

You could serve it over pasta or make a salmon casserole kind of like tuna casserole.

I use canned salmon to put a different spin on deviled eggs. I reserve some small pieces to the side, to decorate when finished. The remainder of the can I mash into the egg yolks using Caesar salad dressing instead of mayo. They are a very nice change of pace.

..when I'm on a low carb calorie burning boosting time, I like to have salmon with some (mild) salsa... I use about equal parts of the salmon and the salsa.. use a little salt substitute and sometimes some lettuce.. when I was a kid we used it for sandwiches like tuna.. makes good grilled sandwiches too with cheese.. actually anything I can use tuna for, I figure I can use the salmon for, after I rinse away the extra oil, etc.. :)

All I have ever done with it is make patties and a loaf too, I hope someone comes up with some good ideas. I remember the first time I opened a can of salmen, I thought it would look like tuna. Was I wrong, I had no idea about the skin and bones. Yuck and yuck, I threw that stuff in the trash. Now I know what to expect, I take out all the bones and skin. My salmon patties is nothing but the salmen, no bones or skin.

Hey Polly check out the website that kerbstar just above you has provided. It looks like a very good site for recipes. Some of my family like the bones but i too remove them I don't like them in my food even if they are soft enough to eat. i don't like the way they feel in my mouth.

I've also used canned salmon for dips. With sour cream and dill it is pretty good. It is also great mixed in with pasta (especially cold pasta salads). I did find this website that is filled with tons of recipes and ideas. In fact, I think I might use some of these for myself. http://welovefish.com/canned.htm

A very interesting question. We have salmon patties pretty often, and I've made salmon loaf, but I never knew much else to do with it. I did try making a salmon stew once...it was not good! I found a website you might be interested in... www.alaskaseafood.org/canned. I haven't looked through it all, but what I've seen looks good. Oh, and I love the bones! They are supposed to be very rich in calcium.

Thanks for the website. I bookmarked it. I didn't realize that you could do so much with salmon. I would never have thought of putting salsa with fish.
