A friend sent me the following about Earth Hour, but I also read about it in my local paper: "On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour: Earth Hour. This massive collective effort reduced Sydney's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour. Imagine if everyone turned off their tv's, computers and electronics too! "Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities are joining Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement. Become part of this global event - on March 29, 2008 at 8pm turn your lights off for one hour. To show your support sign up as a participant at http://www.earthhour.org/ or just mark it on your calendar and plan to participate!" Let's get ready to star gaze in the city!

My husband says if I were out working a job we would save money because my computer wouldn't be on all day. LOL! Too bad I'm not well enough to do that. I think the idea is great. Unfortunately I have to walk around turning off lights and televisions behind those who have abandoned them. And whoever is automatically switching the TV on early Thursday mornings (5:30 am) is not helping matters. We have been keeping a log and realized that it is every Thursday, same channel, same show - a woman preacher always with a great message. Anyway, I will have to start using the power bar if I can remember to turn it off at night.

Your TV goes on by itself every Thursday morning at 5:30 for preacher... Now, that's scarey! Secret messages from the beyond?

I hadn't heard about this Earth Hour, but I think it is a great idea. Just think how much energy could be saved if we decided to do this every day of the year. Thanks for sharing this great article!

You're welcome, and thanks for being the first to respond. Do it every day? Wow! That would take a LOT of commitment. Good on ya if you do do it!

I have not heard before about Earth Hour, but it seems to be great idea behind saving energy. Energy saved is like energy produced. This should be encouraged by one and all. Sadanand.

yes of course i will participate in this Earth Hour. I don't want to be one to say i didn't do anything to save the world in my own way. I don't want to be someone who will regret when it's too late. Hahaha. Better late than never eh?
