Do You Have Adult ADD?

My daughter has recently been diagnosed and while reading up on it I discovered the answer to myself! I have had many of the difficulties described my whole life. But I have a question that I can't find an answer for. In cases of adult ADD, do you see your regular doctor for diagnosis or do you have to see a psychiatrist? So if your an adult ADD, what type of doctor diagnosed you? And what were the procedures?
