Why was Coop's last name Barret for no reason??

Answering the question about fave couples reminded me of this. Why did they give Coop Brenda's last name? I always hoped that there would be some connection then they just kill him off and never mention it. That really sucks, I wish Brenda would come back! She would make Sonny be Sonny again instead of him hanging out at art galleries.

Well, originally Coop was only hired on for February sweeps last year as #3. When they decided to keep him around, because fans really wanted to see the Maxie and '3' relationship explored,and developed, TPTB were actually in negotiations with Vanessa Marcel to make an appearance on Night Shift. hence Coop and Maxie both on Night Dhift with the 'unidentified woman' who had mulltiple burn wounds when the ambulance exploded. They, as far as I know ever had any plans of bringing the Coop/Brenda to GH itelf and then the plans for Vanessa fell through obviously (apparently because of her contracy with Las Vegas' and the whole story line was dropped. I am surprised to say the least though, that Sonny never asked any questions of Coop regarding his last name...I feel TPTB really dropped the ball with this one.
