I guess because today is friday I thought of this.LOL I can remember every friday my mom would clean the house from top to bottom and it would take her all day. My grandmom would do the same thing. Did your mom clean the house on a certain day too? Not me I do it when I can.LOL

My mom cleaned every day it seemed. Then once us kids were able to help, we did the dishes, laundry, floors, etc. I didn't mind because finding money in pockets was mine to keep. With my dad, my poor mom has to clean all the time. When she comes to visit me for a week, when she gets home, there's tons of laundry to do. The house looks like a wreck.
Now with me, I honestly don't like a messy house. I would love for my house to stay the way I left after I cleaned it, but I'm dreaming. With 2 kids, 2 dogs and a husband, it stays a mess nearly all the time it seems. So I clean when I can, I do laundry once a week.

My mom didn't pick a day to clean at all, she cleaned EVERYDAY!! She was a total neat freak back when we were kids, she would do all that housework everyday for some reason! I am like you. I clean when i can. I hate looking at the mess, but i also hate cleaning it up when i know that a few hours later it will be back to a similar state of uncleanliness! It's just crappy!! If only there was some way to teach other people to put their stuff away after they are done with it!! I guess my kid and hubby need more training and that is more work then i'm willing to deal with everyday as well!!!!!! lol.

My mom cleans a lot but since I was the youngest It was a time my sisters and brothers are old enough to get a fair share on the housework. I don't like to see my mom work so I help her a lot when I was still living with them. I am now married and have my own home to clean up but my mom is much older now that my single brother and sisters do the housework for them now.

Usually the weekend was the time we cleaned the house only because she worked during the week. Mind you my sister and I would do most of it before she started in the weekends.

We had a maid come in on Mondays when I was young. Mom also used to do laundry again like thursday.
After that, mom didn't do it on certain days. But she always cleaned the kitchen after a meal, she always made the bed, she changed the sheets on, I think, Weds. She vacuumed the day before she changed the sheets. She cleaned more about the house less frequently. She did the windows once a month inside, out side twice a year. She cleaned the siding once a year and cut the bushs back at the same time. She got the yard mowed every 2 weeks, I helped her in the early 1980's, but after that she got someone to do it for her.
About once a year I'd get on the roof & clean off branchs, cuting them too. About every 5 years, she'd get some pro come & do a major tree trim.
I know where I get my messyness from, but she was never as bad as I am.

LOL... my ex and I would get trashed on apple schnapps and clean the whole place on Friday nights, then get in the shower together and celebrate afterwards.
Heck, now that I think about it, that's probably one of the things that kept us together for so long!

Friday was always our designated day to clean house, TerryZ. I was raised by my great aunt and uncle. They both worked all week long and I attended school. My aunt and I would do the house cleaning after school on Fridays because the weekends were when friends and family members dropped in for a visit. Our house never got really dirty so there wasn't much to do.

I break my cleaning down throughout the week.. Like I take one day to do laundry and another to clean the bathroom and so on.. The only thing I do daily is dishes and spot cleaning..

When you've got a messy husband like my mum's old man you find you are always clearing up and cleaning around him! For poor mum cleaning the house becomes a 7 day week chore! Cooking, cleaning, bringing him regular cups of tea or coffee and getting him up in the morning. When I was a child I used to help mum out as much as I could and in the end I used to get annoyed at my father's laziness, he'll watch tv for 15 hours a day too! Although mum always does her laundry on a Sunday as clockwork as she doesn't have a washing machine she has to go to the laundry at least my father drives her there, which is some consolation and takes her shopping, but yes you've guessed it he'll sit in the car while she shops! MEN!!!!

I would prefer to clean the house on Monday when the kids went back to school. My theory was the house would be a disaster after the weekend when all three girls were home. So if I cleaned it Friday, by Monday I would have to do it again. Our girls had friends over here and their friends would bring more friends and we always had a house full of kids.
I now have a cleaning lady once every two weeks but I do clean in between. Yeah, I am a spoiled brat...lol

My grandparents always cleaned house on Friday too. They each had chores that they would do and it usually took them all morning to clean but it was always done by lunch. I also remember that my Grandma had a wringer washer and she always done laundry on Monday mornings. Once Grandpa was retired, he would always help her and he would always hang the clothes outside to dry.
They also always done dishes together. She washed them and he dried them and put them away. It was always teamwork with them.

I do that!! LOL Seriously though, I start on Thursday and clean all three bathrooms, the kitchen, laundry and change the animals bowls. Friday I change the sheets on my bed, dusting, sweep the porches vacuum & scrub and the rest of the laundry and lay down clean rugs. Now I don't do this EVERY Thursday and Friday, I used to but now I do it every other week. Now that hubby's home, he helps me in doing the vacuuming and scrubbing because of my bad back and now hurt arm. :S

HaHa, yes, I remember my Mom cleaning on Saturdays especially. My father would be off fishing so she'd get down to business and me and my sister too, haha.
She would do laundry on Mondays, and ironing on Tuesdays....how funny to remember that now.
I do it when I have a day off, like today, I SHOULD be doing it, lol!, but where am I?....On Mylot, my bad!

I had to chuckle when I read your discussion because my mom never has and probably never will clean the house on a certain day! The reason is because there are six of us kids (one married and gone, and another out of the state at college). We're all around the same age (only two and four years apart), so we were all young around the same time. What a hassle! (LOL) No wonder my mom didn't have time. She doesn't now because she works two or three separate jobs. We kids do some of the cleaning (like our own rooms and bathrooms, etc.) when we can. We keep our own things clean and sometimes we pitch in to help clean the family rooms and kitchen. We have a big house since there are so many of us, so we all have to take our turns to earn our keep. (LOL) I'm pretty good at keeping my things clean. Most of us are pretty organized. The sister I share my room and bathroom with, though, is very messy! So I'm constantly cleaning up after her. It's very frustrating! I wouldn't say she's lazy, but she just doesn't seem to realize how her clutter adds to my stress! Other than that, cleaning and chores aren't too bad with so many people helping. Usually the biggest cleaning time is when people come to visit! That's when the house gets thoroughly cleaned because we don't want to be embarrassed by a dirty, messy house when we have company! (LOL)
