Do you put your real email address and telephone number when you get freebies?

I've found that sometimes they will not send you the freebie until you confirm your email address which to me is a way of saying they are going to be sending a lot of promotional emails so I have an email address I use only for freebies. I do the same thing with my phone number. I always put the number to my cell phone which is never turned on, I don't pay for incoming calls and since nobody ever calls me on it I don't bother listening to any messages that are on it! Do you give your real information when you are getting freebies? Do you think we should have to?

I give a junk email account address and a wrong phone number. I just recently signed up to be a part of a diet forum and put down the real thing and got bombarded with emails and phone calls.

I don't give out my phone number, but I do give out an email address if that is all that is required. I have a separate email account that I started specifically for that purpose, so I only use it for sites like that and it is just all junk mail! I then have a real email address that I use just for friends and family, and I am very careful not to give that one out to those websites. I used to have a privatephone number where I could give it out as a real number to websites, but they would be directed to an online voicemail box when they tried to call me, so that way I didn't have to give out my actual phone number and have people calling me at home or on my cell phone. I did get a lot of junk messages on there, but I didn't usually check them since I knew they were just from those websites. Unfortunately, now that privatephone service has shut down, so I no longer have that number. I was sad to see it go since it was really useful to use on those websites!

I have an email address which I use for anything that might attract spam, and when I'm filling in my telephone number I normally miss out a digit. Whoops!

I have a second email and a Brring! number (see profile) that I use for calls. They never go through and I get paid for every time they call...so they can call me all they want lol.

I was using my regular email address, then was getting too much spam and remembered I do have an alternate email, so have gone back to using that one for any junk. Also, I put my home phone number down any time I fill out anything. The reason for this is, I never answer it, I keep the ringer turned off, and just check for messages every so often. I don't need telemarketers calling my cell phone, interrupting me, and wasting my minutes!

When I first started using the computer and was signing up for freebies and such, believe it or not I did put my real email address and phone number. You can well imagine the amount of spam email and calls that I received. I have since opened a couple of free online email accounts just for this purpose. As for the phone number, I got a free one online that I use, I no longer put my real phone number. It is a shame that one has to provide these to get a lousy free sample!

I actually provide my real address and phone number. I get alot of freebies in the mail and haven't been hassled by anyone on the phone. I may have gotten emails but I just mark them as spam and they go straight to my spam folder.

I use my Brring number when signing up for freebies and I use my email address that is filled up with all spam email anyway. I use my Brring number for my GPT sites too and I earned enough to make payout within a week.

I have a special "SPAM"emailaddress, and for telephonenumbers I use my old one which is not in use anymore. Once my hubby signed up for a freebie and used his real telephonenumber, we are still getting calls, even though it's about a year ago! And, we never even received the thing we asked for

Yes I think you should give out real information when you are asking for freebies. Since there is a reason they are giving out things for free, you have to expect to get some emails or phone calls about other products as well. Companies can't just give things away free, there has to be some catch to it. I don't mind though, giving out my email address. When I then get an email from some other promotional company and I am not intersted in them I just unsubscribe to them and they don't send me anymore emails. I also give out my cell phone number and I have caller ID so when I get a call from an 1-800 number I let my voice mail pick it up, or I answer and just tell them I'm not interested and the calls usually stop. I also give out my real address or I wouldn't get the freebie, would I. I really don't have a problem with this.

I actually use my real email and phone number. I haven't had any problem with phone calls or anything. As far as emails any one's I do get that I didn't sign up for usually go to my bulk email. I usually uncheck the box at the end of freebies that says do you want to receive special email offers.

the best lesson you could learn from me is to not ever provide your personal information or do not ever trust something that is free. if you ever experience something where you have to provide your sensitive information, always remind yourself that there is no such thing as a free lunch. i know how things can be enticing but you have to fight temptation by my lesson.

Everybody has a gimmick, ctry, and yes, you do get bombarded with a lot of useless spam once you sign up for these things. I have learned the hard way that it is a vicious cycle. I keep telling myself that I will get another email address just for this purpose, but I never get around to it. When I start receiving all the spam emails I just mark them as such. It doesn't get rid of all of them, but it does help. I have even tried giving a phony number, but they always catch me out -I don't know how!

I don't think we should have to give it out either unless we want to. I also have a email address just for certain things and if I have to put a phone number on those freebies I use the phone number that I had for my computer when I used dial up. LOL

I have a special gmail address set up for things like that. I never check that email I just go on every once in awhile and delet all the spam messages. I do confirm an email if needed. I don't give my real phone number I don't want the calls and I don't give my cell phone number to anyone but family and a few friends I don't want a bunch of sales calls on it.

No I always give my real email address and number. I find I get a lot of extra emails and have had a few texts from loan companies even though I have never requested a loan and a couple of calls from charities but other than that have'nt been too hassled by it, but am considering getting an extra email address and I have just arrived home from work to find that my inbox has 1000 emails and can't hold anymore, must admit a fair few were from new discussions on mylot and the other bulk ones were from my local freecycle site so I need to do someting but don't want to miss out on any new discussions you guys start either and if I'm not online at the time they can can lost in amongst all the others. Ellie :D
