Pink Floyd: best with Barrett or after Barrett?

This is one I've got a problem with. Although I prefer the music of Pink Floyd in the Barrett period, I think that Pink Floyd became more of a group after Barrett. Syd Barrett had a vibrant personality which was standing out, and I think that it would have been a matter of time before he left Pink Floyd for a solo career anyway. Of course, it is impossible to know what would have happened. I still think though that Pink Floyd were more bonded and in a way sounded more diverse after Syd Barrett left. Any thoughts on that?

I prefer the GilmourĀ“s era! Exactly, Barret would have an excellent career doing it at himself!! He was too crazy for Pink Floyd!! Not bad, but just too crazy! Although madness is good!

I personally prefer them when he left, but at the same time without the Syd Barrett time period there would be no Pink Floyd. I just prefer them without him because of how big a fan I am of Gilmour's playing. I'm not saying I dislike Syd or anything but I just prefer Gilmour especially because of his melodic guitarwork.

he may have been great with p.f. when they were first starting, but i think they got better after he had to go. (do not want to offend anyone, am being neutral although it is my humble opinion)
