What's your opinion on Lasik Surgery?

I'm scheduled to get Lasik Surgery and just wanted to see what everyone thought about this surgery. If you have had it done...was it worth the money? Did it hurt? Was it hard to stare at the red lasers for 2-4 hours? If you haven't had it done would you ever consider getting it done?

hi,
My aunt had the surgery and I know one other person who's had the surgery. I want to have it, but don't have the guts to. I may be the wrong person to answer your post...
I am just afraid I will be the 1% they screw up on and lose my bad eyesight to blindness forever. Talk about negative!
Both the people were thrilled with their surgery. One doesn't have to wear glasses or contacts now. The other has reading glasses, where she didn't before. But even she is happier with just wearing reading glasses than needing to wear them all the time.
I always said I would get it done when they perfected the surgery. I'd say they probably have and I'm still chicken.
I have another question for you to ponder. Does wearing eye corrections make your prescription worse? B/c I used to be able to see a lot farther away than I can now, and I'm nearsighted. Now it seems like if it isn't right up in my face (and I'm not wearing my contacts or glasses) I can't see it. So are my eyes getting worse or am I just dependent on my eyewear?
Do you wear contacts? I think that would help with the surgery but it hasn't for me. I guess sticking your fingers on your eyes is a lot diff. than a laser. lol
Hope this helped a lil.
B

I like to wear contacts but I can't anymore because it gives me bumps on my eyes. I don't know if it's because our eyes get worse or if we get dependent on our eyewear. Sometimes I think it's that we get dependent on them more than our eyes are getting worse. I used to be able to see further away also but now my eyes are lazy...lol. You should try and think positive about things because it brings positive outcomes in life. I wish you the best and hope that you get over your fear. I will let you know how my surgery goes. Take care.

Hi dayzz! I haven't had Lasik, but I have been recently considering it. I have spoken to a few friends and co-workers who have had this, and they are all very happy! I didn't ask about pain or discomfort, but none of them mentioned any... It has only encouraged me more to have the surgery. It sure sounds like it's worth the money!
I'm anxious to hear how it all goes for you! When is your surgery scheduled? If I hear any more about any of my friends' experiences, I'll try to get back here to post.

I hope you will post how it turns out. I have terrible eye site and use glasses or contacts all the time. I have heard good and bad stories about this surgery. I had a friend that said there was no pain and he did not have any problems. He can see pretty good now. However, he is a person who has tatoos on 50 percent of his body and seems to like pain. I on the other hand am a chicken. Feathers and all. I even have to be put to sleep to have my teeth cleaned that is how chicken I am. I understand that during this surgery you are awake for the whole thing sounds scary to me. I have heard that when it is over your eyes feel gritty. I have not had the surgery so I do not know for sure. I also do not know how any one can stare at a light for so many hours. I guess they are going to prop your eyes open some how. It is not natural to stare for hours without blinking. I do not think I am ready to try this yet but you never know the mood could hit me. I wish you all the luck in the world with yours. I hope you can see perfect when they are done and you have no pain. Good luck.
