I just received an E-mail from a good friend pointing something out, and would love to share this with everyone....
You may have already heard of this, I'm not sure.
If someone calls you on your home phone, or cell phone asking you to push (90#), DONT do it. They are telling people that they are working on the lines or something to that effect.
This allows people, full access to make long distant phones calls that will be billed to your phone.
This originated from our jail and prison systems.
The person that sent the E-mail called Verizon, to verify this, and said it to be true, so, BEWARE! :o)

Thanks for the heads up. I had never heard of such a thing before. There are always new scams out there. People seem to come up with something new everyday to rip us off with. I hope a lot of people read your post.
I will put it out on my email listing. I reach out to a lot of people all over the US because I am an ex boater and I still keep up with all my boater friends. Thanks again.

I should hope people are smart enough by now not to do stupid things like this. I only answer my phone if I know the number on my caller ID and if it was the phone company which is actually also my cable company I have it so they have to email me and not call me for anything.

I too checked the Urban Legends info in Snoopes.com and learned that this scam works with organizational phones such as hospitals and businesses and other phones that require the caller to dial 9 to make an outside call. These are referred to as PBX Lines. I was also glad for this discussion because it taught me some valuable information about dealing with calls from phone companies and other agencies. HouseCat had some good tips about always getting the callers name and emplopee ID no. when dealing with such calls. Good discussion marilynlynn.
