My father was the most patient man I have ever met. I wasn't always happy with his decisions when I was growing up, but I soon learned the wisdom of his ways. He went blind at the age of seventy but accepted it as he did all things that he could not change. He lived to the ripe old age of ninety-five, twenty-five of those years in darkness, but I cannot remember him ever complaining. Being an avid reader I know it must have been very difficult for him to forgo that pleasure, but he accepted it with a stoicism that few can imitate. It may have been the era in which he grew up, because I know that it was quite different from today. Is it possible to have patience in today's world? It seems that everyone is in a rush to get somewhere, and I often wonder if it will be able to continue. What do you think, are we in for a rude awakening?

Yes, in life, there seems to be a lot of pleasures that we have to forgo!
And I've learned that patience makes things go a whole lot easier!
And the sooner one learns this, the less rude the awakening will be!!

Well I also think that patience is a great virtue. And we need to learn it and then pass it one to our children and their children. Life has become so fast with the advent of technology. Hmmm... technology is supposed to make our life more comfortable by giving us more time of leisure. But it turns out otherwise!

I have a terribly hard time with patience. Once I get something in my head I want it right away with no waiting. My Dad is a very patient man and my Mom is a procrastinator so there you go. One is great at waiting and the other puts everything off LOL Guess where that leaves me...yup, waiting to put everything off LOL

It is nice and sometimes not nice to be stoic. It really depends on the situation and the individuals involved. For one thing, being stoic doesn't make the individual attached to much with material things that often causes false purposes in life. Then again, being stoic, if in a strong sense, distances familiarity with other people.

My father was a patient man too, he would complian sometimes but only to my mom and me, never to strangers unless they wuld bring it up first. I never really ever sawhim get angry about anything, he was always a mild mannered man.

my father has the patience i wish that my future husband will have too. i've seen my father's patience so many times and i admire him for that. he's actually my idol. ;)
I notice people who lose their patience on a street or at the counter. I just can figure from the look on their face and i would just assess them that they don't have longer patience than i have because i just smile at those kind of times. :)

I learned to be still, when I know that I cannot change what this world wants me to be. I used to be impatient, but slowly learned to wait. Just like here on mylot, I have learned to be patient but sometimes we all have limitations. As for life outside the net, I know that I've given more from what I should've received. So I guess, that's one way of being a patient individual..

I have to say that your father is someone who I definitely would have admired. Patience and self-control are the two fruits of the spirit that I am struggling to master. I don't think I know anyone who is that patient. He must have been a wonderful father.
As far as the "Microwave Times," that we are living in. There is no way that we can keep up with this pace. This is why so many people are on all these different medications now. Even young children. They can not keep up any longer.

Hi Rozie, Thank you for commenting. Yes, as I get older myself I believe I admire my father's patience even more. He was satisfied with his life, although he didn't have much by today's standards. I too feel that we need to slow down and learn to relax, or things will eventually come crashing down around us. I hope we can learn in time to prevent that. Blessings.

Wow! A great father you have there pal. ;)
For me, to be honest, I really am not PATIENT!
I know it's one of the most important virtue that a person needs in his life but I just can't seem to find it in my heart sometimes to be patient with things and to some people. I even always remind myself that PAtience is a virtue but can't seem to digest the thought you know..(Shame on me..) Your father is really brave to handle his situation. I salute him for that. Wish all people can be like your father..Happy mylotting pal. ;)

Hi Pose123! Your father is someone we can all emulate. Patience is an virtue and it is really very difficult to instill it in your system. I have seen so many older people close to me who are very patient and when they can't take it anymore, they always call on the Lord to lift them up and help them to carry their cross. I grew up in this kind of teachings and it is really hard but my heart gets so tired too and most of the time I cry to the Lord but I always rely on having faith and being patient for His answer and Help. I have seen many young people nowadays who gets so impatient even on simple things and I guess, patience have become a stranger to them. I think it is because they have a different orientation in life. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day! :)

Hi faith, Thank you for responding. Young people growing up today are use to instant satisfaction, and that is not conducive to learning patience. I do believe that all things will work out for the best and I'm not opposed to progress. We just need to have patience and wait. Blessings.

patience is very hard to come by. people say I am patient with my kids, but I beg to differ. I am so impatient. It seems like most of the time I am always saying "hurry up, let's go"...
awhile back ago while i was waiting for my daughter to be born (man pregnancy is terrible for impatient people like me!) I wrote on my blog "patience is the ability to wait for something without screaming at people."

You are very lucky Pose, to have had a father like you did. His hold on patience was truely a virtue. But then, it will be an honour for me to be on the side of your father and then let you know that it is possible to have patience on our world as we know it today. The rude awarkening is for those who are not prepared. And the only preparation is setting your own parameters for your aspirations. The dearth of patience as we know it today is simply because of the fact that a whole lot of us believe that "rush" is the only prereqisite for achievement. Instead of imitating the stoicism of people like your father, majority of people imitate the rush of some lucky fellow who rushed to success. If you BELEIVE that you can patiently get what you want, you will definitly not be in for a rude awarkening.
