Has anyone else found it weird that this show actually makes you care about a serial killer? I got so wrapped up in the 2nd season, that I had to keep reminding myself that I've become emotionally attached to fictional serial killer, and maybe it's time to peel myself away from the TV for a moment. lol.

I'm always surprised at what Dexter will come up with next. He's almost like some kind of super hero, even though he's a serial killer. What strikes me as odd is that Dexter really seems to care about certain people, even though he denies having any feelings.

Well, yeah, that's his biggest contradiction. He thinks he's a sociopath, but he does seem to care a lot about certain other people, so maybe he's not.

that's right. he always said that and many times. i believe that even serial killers they still have a soft spot inside them. just consider dexter's principle in killing people, he only kills someone who is criminal and he don't want to kill innocent people and children. also, remember the scene when a cuban boy saw him kill castillo and his wife in his junkyard? what did the boy describe of him when the sketch was released. isn't it a portrait of emotions?
i think, he's just trying to subdue and suppress his feelings so that it won't affect his principles and his code. let's just see how it goes in season three.

Yeah, I've read both books; they're great! Don't watch it on CBS, download it online, un-edited. From what I've heard, the edited versions cut so much that it's almost impossible to follow the show.

I absolutely adore it. I love that it gives you a perspective where you DO get attached to a fictional serial killer. I'm also looking forward to reading the books!
I have had a fascination with "humanizing monsters" most of my life... and this series just goes to show that when done right it can even be commercial. AMAZING! Makes me want to finish writing the novels I've been working on for years.

well, yeah, i find dexter more of a hero than a serial killer. that was my most dominant feeling for this unusual character. i've always been fond of crime and detective movies, the more blood and gore the better. this one caught me off-guard because instead of feeling dread for the serial killer, i actually cheered for him. and he actually has more humanity in him, in a twisted kind of way. besides, dexter is really hot!

I'm only attached and rooting for the guy because of the actor Michael C. Hall. I bet people wouldn't care too much if they picked another actor. The creators of the show don't really want people to hate him, who would watch? He only kills killers and not children or random people. Good thing he is not like a real serial killer because it would be very sadistic to watch. He is like a vigilante killer, like the Punisher, lots of people like that character. He's even worse than Dexter.

Thats exactly the whole purpose of the show....to make you feel for the serial killer!
This is best summed up in episode where Lila finds Doakes locked in the cabin n' she says "Oh, the poor thing..", Doakes was like 'oh am ok', lila's all like 'not u!..poor Dexter'..ha!

I've been watching this show lately and find it intriguing. I can't say I'm necessarily feeling emotionally attached, but it is fascinating to see a character who murders people and is indeed the very type of person he's trying to catch. He's got his own version of a moral code and won't stray from it. He has no emotions but tells his brother that he's developed a fondness for his "sister". It was also interesting to see his expression when he killed his brother, the only person in the world who understands him and condones what he does. I feel it's only a matter of time until Dexter is caught though, and then the house of cards that he's built in his interactions with his sister and his girlfriend and the cops is going to come crashing down. One person on the squad is already suspicious of him and I think next season they'll explore that more.
