Do you think having a dog will make you a better parent?

I have this dog and I have had him for about two or three years now and he lives in the house...and I swear he is like a child in my opinion..and i have had people tell me that he is like a child...see with him you have to hand feed him at least three times a day(don't know why he only has to eat like that but he won't eat any other way)and then you have to bring him his water(again because he would rather thirst to death rather than walking for it)and he has to use the bathroom like seven or eight times during the day time(and i have to take the time to take him out when i'm home) and then during the night he will wake me up at about two or three in the morning and sometimes more than once to go outside and use the potty and whenever he is sick he won't sleep anywhere but beside me and I have to stay up because alot of times he whines whenever he is sick...and i have to clean it up..and whenever I come home from somewhere I have to bring him a toy because if i go to the store or something like that and I come home with bags he sits there and waits to see what you got him..and if you don't get him something he will whine about it and pout...so again do you think that having a dog(especially like mine)prepares you to be a better parent..?

I don't know about being a better parent. But it sure does give you a lot more responsibilites than you did before. I am sure it wouldn't compare to having children. Because you can't leave kids at home all day alone while you are at work or out with the friends. Dogs aren't picky with food, where some kids are. So I don't think it prepares you to be a better parent but to manage things better and be more responsible. It might help a little though.

Oh yeah, very positively. With a dog you have to teach it things to be good, with a child you have to do the same thing but teach him/her to tie shoes, read, eat properly, and stuff like that. Basically, A dog can help build up you're skills to your child. :D
