I am always in the doctors' office these days. Then again when you have to undergo a certain treatment like cancer, you usually have to visit their office frequently. I have a team that has been helping me through my treatment. I have two oncologists, a surgeon, an ObGyn, and a general practitioner. It has helped a lot and I do trust my doctors. I also have a great dentist and a good eye doctor that I go to as well. My doctors have helped a lot during my treatment. I am very grateful for them.

I was actually just thinking about this today. I realized that I have not been to the doctor since my checkup at the 2 week mark after my son was born. He will be 18 months old in a couple of weeks. I take my son for his regular checkups, but I don't go for myself. Most of the time I am relatively healthy, aside from the odd cold. I dread going to the doctor, so I avoid it at all costs. But I am thinking it would most certainly be a good idea for me to go in for a checkup, especially if I want to stay healthy.

I go to the doctor every three months and I also go to the nutritionist every month to control my weight. What I fail to do is get a pap smear or a mammogram, my last one was done about 4 years ago or more.

It's been 2 1/2 years since I had a total physical. I can't afford to have one with no insurance, and I can't get insurance because I've had cancer :-( I did go to a free clinic a couple of weeks ago, and they said I have to get more testings done. Haven't gone yet, I know I can't afford a cat scan (the only cat scan I can afford right now is where my cat lays on the bed and eyes me sitting at the computer, although I think she might be just begging for extra kibble lol)

I did go when I bled a little a couple of years ago, I have a tendency to get ovarian cysts, but that was all. I am rather not trusting of doctors since I went to one in my late twenties and he decided to cut my fallopian tubes to try to make them straighten out. So the only time I do is if someone tells me what is wrong, like when I broke my wrist, but lately the last time with my cysts, there was such a long wait in the emergency room over eight hours, I told my husband, if anything is going to go wrong, I will not go to the doctor, I will just die.

I have a physical examination once a year and see my doctor as often as needed. There are a lot of problems that have no symptoms, so I try to get my blood work done as often as they allow me to. For instance, my potassium was low. It had the potential of being very dangerous.
I didn't have any symptoms, but a blood test showed that it was low. They put me on two tablets a day and it was still low. At three tablets a day, it is fine, but my doctor says that I have to have it tested once a month. I am glad that this is something that they caught. You want to go to the doctor before symptoms start. Because sometimes symptoms mean that the problem has progressed to a dangerous stage.

The last time I went to the doctor was when I gave birth to my youngest son. That was almost 8 years ago! I hate going to the doctor (for myself), unless it is absolutely necessary like giving birth to my kids. :P
So Marcia, how many years has it been since you've been to the doctor?

That last time I went to the doctor was on Thursday. Suddenly started with chill and high fever. 105 degrees.
I am immunosuppressed due to a immune disorder that I have which is currently in remission. It is a bummer though because it seems I am always coming down with something...
Because of the immune disorder, I have been thru chemo and plasma exchange and have had lengthy and frightening hospital stays. I hate going to the doctor, but often have to.

I have to go regularly to see my doctor to monitor my thyroid as I have an underactive thyroid and my blood has to be taken so the dose can be lowered or highered if necessary, trouble is it is very very hard to find a caring, compassionate doctor nowadays, they treat you like numbers, and the amount of times I have never been seen on time, once I had to wait an hour over the time I was given! It's a bit much.
