Do you have any strategies for kids to eat vegetables?

As you already know, vegetables are what kids should eat as they are healthy but most of them are not really keen on eating vegetables. What's your strategy for this? What do you cook with vegetables so kids would enjoy?

Hi the one that worked for me was allowing my little boy, who is three, to help prepare the vegetables with me. A neighbour dropped round a cauliflower and I let him help me by taking off the outer leaves and letting him feed to the guinea pigs and rabbits and told him the best bit was for us and then let him help mix a cheese sauce and he ate every bit. I will also let him choose which veg he would like when we go shopping and make him promise he will try. Also throughout the day I give a snack of chopped fruit but will put in sliced raw carrot and celery too. He has his days where he point blank refuses so I will do fish fingers and put a vegetable finger in amongst. His favourite though is sweetcorn which is the one with less nutrition, typical. Ellie :D

What a nice way to make them love vegetables :) Thank for sharing ellie. I hope I won't have many problems about this issue in the future. :)

Aww cute. My guinea pigs and rabbits actually make me eat more vegetables myself. Because they need vegetables, so I'll often buy stuff that we'll both eat. Except, they eat most of the cilantro... I only use a tiny bit of that.

I used to steam some broccoli florets for my daughter when she was younger (she's 18 now) I told her they were "trees" and she asked if she could have them with parmesan cheese. She still asks for trees when I'm cooking dinner!

I learned an excellent strategy from my animal nutrition professor. He was telling us how a lot of horse owners feed alfalfa hay even though it isn't the best thing for them, because the horses are picky and will "not eat" (according to the owners) the grass hays (timothy, orchard, brome, etc.). Well, if you only give them the grass hay, eventually they'll eat it. The same thing works for kids. They don't want to eat what you made for dinner? Too bad. After starving themselves for one meal, they won't be likely to want to miss more. Come to think of it, I guess that's the same method my parents used. If we wouldn't eat our dinner, it was just too bad because they weren't making anything extra.

As everyone is doing cut them into small pieces and adding it to soups or adding carrots to meatballs or burger and making carrot cake. Fresh salads children love them. I also make taco salad- where there is grounded meat and the variety of vegetables cut into pieces.

I chopped them into very tiny bits and added it to their food. Its so tiny that they can't pick it out. If they refuse to eat, that's alright and you won't get to eat anything after that.

Flavor and make them look good. I also do honey carrots, yams, or sweet potatoes. Or try a pot pie. If you make them fun you can get the kids to eat them. Are you having issues getting your children to eat veggies? I will tell you with my oldest daughter, I have learned that when I take her shopping with me and she sees what I am buying and helps me she will eat them more. She hated veggies with her adopted parents but when she found me she found that she loves food. I also make sure that the plate looks good, people eat with their eyes, the benefits of working in a kitchen for so long has helped me with that. If you message me I may have some recipes for you to help you out. Ainge You can make carrot cake, cupcakes and zucchini bread too.
