I have few questions to ask regarding the handover of responsibilities of Islam from the Prophet after his death.
Every Prophet when left, they gave the responsibility his successor...Like Prophet Musa, his assistant was Imran...and so on, as the QURAN itself says...
Than, why after Prophet Muhammad(saww) some group of people gathered and voted themselves whom to be his successor ??
Why didnt the Prophet leave its assistant to guide us ??
Dont you think there was a person whom he left with his successor ship but the people of the time ignored him ??
Because its impossible to leave the whole religion of Islam just like that on the people without any proper successor coming from God or the prophet of God ???

I think Hz. Ali was his successor. He was son of Muhammad (SAW)'s uncle and married his daughter Fatima. I don't know if you really know the story of first 4 successors of Islam. It is so complicated and divides muslims.

Even if you have to force people right?
And we all know what the punishment is if you choose to convert to another religion or choose no religion at all don't we?

You have asked pretty vague question. However, you have to see it in context as to what successor-ship did Holy Prophet (SAW) envisioned. According to his various sayings and one of the prominent ones in Bukhari and Muslim etc. He did mention saying like any other prophet after him there will be a successorship (Khilafat) so long as Allah wills, that Khilafat will be replaced by cruel and ruthless Kings so long as Allah wills, after that Allah will start the Khilafat again on the pattern of Nabuwat. So if you see the first 4 Khalifas also known as Khulfa-e-Rashdeen came got replaced by Hereditary Khilafat of Maweeyah and Yazid until in 19th and 20th century ended the Ottoman Khilafat. During the same time the Promised Successor, the Promised Messiah and Mahdi appeared in the form of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian and at his demise Khilafat started today only Khilafat is in Ahmadi Muslims. By the grace of Allah the prophcey of Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW)fulfilled with glory and today Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya is the one that is gathering all the Muslim sects into one hand and asking all to join them under this blessed institution. Hope this helps. For more information visit www.alislam.org

I have responded to this types of issues that most Muslims are having in my other discussion Ahmadiyyat an Islamic Renaissance. I have discussed this in length that Muslims regardless of being Shias or Sunnis have made their religion into a complex matter even though Islam itself is not complicated. Exception to this rule are only Ahmadi Muslims who practice Islam in rational and logical view. I do not want to start a discussion on this particular topic here as there is already a discussion forum Ahmadiyyat an Islamic Renaissance, if you go there most of your answers are written there. If you still have questions you can visit one of the following: www.alislam.org or www.islamicFAQ.org
