What to do!!!???

Right now I am writing a story and it's going pretty good...but I just can't figure out if I should kill off tihs character now or later...He's a good caharcter (he's actually the "good bad guy") and I hate to kill him at all, but I think it would make for a good scene.
But I don't know if I should kill him now, during a fight with the real bad guys, or if he should die later--killed by one of my creatures. Either time he dies he'll be protecting the baby that he already saved before. But I don't know which to choose!!
How do you usually make decisions when it comes to things like this?

Hello Lilyofthethorns,I am not a writer like you also never
wrote any story but I think you shouldnot kill the good guy/girls characters unless you creat another to take his/her place,we are
in need of good positive souls around us in our world, why the good guys/girls have to die?you are a writer and if you write
stories send positive message to your readers that honest and good always wins atlast inspite of all barriers and sufferings.I might be wrong but this is my opinion. Thanks

Hello Lilyofthethorns,Thanks for your reply,if in anytime
in any of your stories you find difficult to save your good
characters then introduce the character named "God" to rescue the good characters as still now the number of believers of God and his miracles in our earth is much more than the number of atheists, therefore your story will be accepted by your readers, hope you dont mind for this suggestion lol.Thanks.

I don't think you are wrong at all. I will try and think of a way to keep him alive. But I'll also have to try and think of something else I can do to take it's place in the story as something shockig that happens. Thank you =)

In all honesty I don't think anyone can tell you on how to write your story but here's an idea instead of killing the "good bad guy" out of the story why don't you do a twist and make him totally good. From what I read so far it sounds like he isn't totally good nor bad and its really good on how you did that. I think having a twist like that wouldn't be bad either.

I think he is pretyt much all good now. He saved the baby, main hero, another good guy...I think he's redeemed himself =P But I am considering not killing him at all now. Thank you =D

i personally would write it both ways. Write a draft version (not real perfect, just quikly write it) of him getting killed NOW and how you think it could play out, then do the same thing if he lives NOW.
Sometimes if you write out both ways, you will see one obviously is better. Other times if you write it both ways, you will find a third idea that is even better. Good luck!

I just let the story flow. If the story has him live, then he lives, but that's just me. However, if you do feel that you really want to kill him off, then probably saving it to the end, to make it a climax is probably the better way to do it. If you like him, then probably your reader will like him and saving the babies life will make him heroic.

He already has saved the baby, and I defeniatly love him for that! =P I would like to let it flow like you say...but I already stopped right at the moment where I need to choose...and I've thought so much about it I can't go on without knowing what to do! X.X Writing is such a pain sometimes, too bad I like it so much! lol

Hmm...I do like the idea of not killing him, since I like his character so much. But if I don't kill him, I'll have to do something to take its place, something else that would be kind of a bummer shocker lol.

It really seems like this writting is important to you especially this story. If youre having such a dilemma i think you should go ahead and continue with the flow of though u were thinking about then if youre unhappy change it later. I can think of so many books where i thought charcters were gonna die or werent. I bet that alot of those authors had alot of different ways they were thinking of going with their stories.

I guess if I didn't like it, I could always change it...but sometimes I have such a short fuse when it comes to writing, I might stress myself out lol. But there isn't much more i can do! =P Thanks!

I agree with winter08; when you do "kill him" it shoudl be in such a way that he can be "resurrected: in either the next book or a later book. And, it should be done towards the end of this book.
After all, if your readers like him as much as you do' they will want to read more about him later. That also let's you expand into a series instead of just a book.

I do like that idea, because I think he is a likable character...but in my stories situation I don't see a way of him coming back...
You know...I'm going to leave what I just said there, even though, as I typed it I just thought of something I might be able to do with that! lol. I'm not sure if it'll really work...but there's always a possibilty.

I create 2 outlines and let an inpartial person read them both. Actually, the person is my husband, he's not overly impartial. In your case, write both scenes and let a couple of family members that read a lot decide which scene is better.
Or you could make a choose your own ending or middle or whatever book? Take care

It's a good idea to make 2 copies and let someone else read them. My dad would be a good person to look it over. But the scenes in which he would die would be pretty far apart from eachother.
