The Chinese government has said political issues should not be linked to the 2008 Beijing Olympics mid mounting international criticism of its economic and military ties to Sudan. The statement came the day after director Steven Spielberg withdrew as an adviser to the Olympics over the issue.
The move was followed by a letter from 80 Nobel laureates and artists urging Beijing to help end the conflict in Sudan.
Do you think the forthcoming Olympic Games should be used as an opportunity to make political statements? Do you live in China? Send us your reaction.

I think sport and politics should not be mixed, sport and entertainment is one thing that belongs to the people, all people, and it would be nice if we could keep it all peaceful and bring people together for what it is and not promote opinions, I think it is a shame if they spoil this Olympics by turning it into a political arena...I want to enjoy seeing what China is going to put on for the world to see....
