I was just talking about the supposed money the government is sending out in May. My friend and I were at a local breakfast place and there were several people involved in the discussion. One of the men said that he thought it was to be given to people who paid taxes. A woman jumped in to disagree that all should receive it or no one should. This left me thinking of how I actually feel on this subject. I dont think its fair that I have to work so hard to take care of my children when a friend of mine is on SSI (she's depressed. So am I.) lol drives a hummer(due to a law suit) and never worries about money because she's earning under the table. No thats not fair. I dont even have a car at this time because I cant afford it. I get so frustrated. When the conversation came to me I said how I felt and that I have no problem with the government helping people who are in need.
The whole idea behind the money from government was to have people spend it on something fast. Thus, bringing up economy or something. Shouldnt that be a treat for people who bust their backs. I do believe there are exceptions to every rule or situation. I just think there are people that we all know, who take advantage. When my I started my jewelry business and friend of mine decided she wanted to come to sell with me at a local flea market. I wanted to see what the response was. When we signed up the woman told my friend that they hand over all information to IRS. I had said to my friend "Wont you get in trouble? You are on SSI and so is her husband. She said that she was allowed to make extra money. I did some checking for her. I was correct that extra money wasnt selling jewelry at a flea market on the weekends and not telling anyone. She also breeds dogs and advertises on the web. She makes a fortune. I think she shouldnt be able to collect for being depressed which is making her unable to work a 40 hour a week job. However, she can breed Boxer dogs and sell jewelry at a flea market. Isnt that work as well? I dont think that I should have to struggle because I follow the rules. Shes been doing this for years and hasnt received so much as a cut in her monthly amount because she falls thru the cracks.. What is your take on the situation?

I'm 60 years old and have been on Social Security for 8 years because I'm bi-polar. I've tried working a number of times but for one reason or another I'm never successful at it. They do take out money for medicaid from our ss checks so we are putting something into the government not to mention that I started working...on the books...when I was 15 years old so I don't think they are giving me anything I don't deserve.

Mam please excuse me if I offended you. I, too, Am bi-polar. My daughter also has leukemia(for second time). I didnt mean to suggest that you didnt put into the government. My friend is hardly depressed was the point. I do have a mental illness. I have also been denied help. I think that when they decide that you should receive benefits your illness is in full force and you are probably on meds by this point. She however isnt on any meds. She is in no kind of therapy. Its a hand on deal to breed boxer puppies if she had uncontrollable depression she would at least need therapy or something to cope. Am I right? That is my pet peeve. I hate that I have to struggle and she is just sitting back relaxing. She makes a great deal of cash on those dogs. And not one dime has ever been reported. Thats my point.

First of all, your friend is clearly breaking the law and when - not IF - she gets caught she's going to be in big trouble. I don't disagree with someone with severe depression receiving disability benefits if the condition is legitimate, but someone who is genuinely suffering from depression could not be making a "fortune" doing all the things your friend is doing. My take on the situation is they should clamp down on those committing fraud so there would be more help available to those who really need it. I think those who are legitimately disabled and eligible for benefits should also be eligible for the rebate. Many of these people did work for years prior to their disability and they're also part of our economy, are they not? Note, I said the legit ones not the cheaters.

I'll bet it did feel good to tell her she wouldn't be getting a check. I have no doubt she'll get caught someday, or at least I hope so because there are people that are really hurting that can't get any help at all. I don't know how or why some get it all and others get nothing I only know that's how it goes.

I, too, feel that there are circumstances for every individual. I am not the type of person to get into someone elses business. I just think that she, along with some others have the tendency to think they can or should have everything. After I had researched the rebate issue I called her to tell her she wouldnt be eligible. It felt sooo good. This is a woman that also breeds dogs that she sells for at least $1000. My husband says that she's one of those people that want it all no matter who she stomps on. After watching her during this whole idea of free money she was a vulture. She knew it all. I have put alot of space between us.

OH boy do I understand where you are comeing from I am dealing with something close to this but it is with DCS and not SSI. It is like the goverment says hey go be lazy sit on your but or work under the table it is no big deal because there is honest people that will pay taxes and we can pay you. It makes you want to stop working so hard and be a bum. Why not they get it all

wow that sucks.. people do messed up things which ruins a lot for others that may need help. I worked everyday since i was 15 (im 28) and went on bed rest last year due to a really rough pregnancy, i worked before that for only a month, and then had to visit my lil 1 in the hospital for 3 months after giving birth at 27 weeks, so the stimulus would have been nice and came in very handy with my backed up bills..lol but i didnt earn enough that year so i didnt qualify, what are ya gunna do?! ya kno..ya win some u lose some. But in your friends case hun what goes around comes around. and itrs a scarey thing.
best of luck sweety
