while you are using it? I think our male cat - Sigil - is insane. Today while I was using the toilet, he kept trying to stick his head in the toilet. I know cats are curious but you would think that the smell would drive him away, not attract him. Does your cat do this?

I had a Siamese cat that would drink out of the toilet. It wasn't a problem except when I would have to go to the bathroom while I was pregnant. I would race for the bathroom, drop my pants, sit down, feel something hairy and simply loose it and pee all over him. I had to bathe that cat so many times it wasn't funny-yet he never stopped crawling down into the toilet to get his drinks! The cats I have now think that the bathroom is a meeting place. Whether I am going to the toilet or taking a bath I always have at least 3 cats keeping me company. I think it's a curiosity thing in the cat's mind. After all they use dirt and we sit on a bowl..."What Gives?"

One of the things that I found fantastic in animal behavior is when my Mom and I got Rotties. We had had them from about 7 weeks of age and they were a breeze to house break. Well one night I was in the kitchen, which is next to the bathroom, and I heard water running. My Mom was in the living room so it wasn't her. I went to check out the noise and the male Rottie was standing in the bath tub peeing! I called my Mom to check it out--that's real thinking on the animals part! When my Mom was in the hospital just before she passed away I came home late one night, and since we live in the country bathrooms aren't plentiful. I stopped to get our mail out of the box and decided to relieve myself there rather than trying to make it the last 8 miles home. There wasn't anyone around at that time of night so I just pulled down my pants, squatted and started to pee. I felt something furry between my ankles and while I was relieving myself. There between my ankles was a baby raccoon, looking up at the rain storm. It was a wonderful funny story to tell my Mom the next day. She passed away a few days later but at least she had a funny story to take with her.

Well cats are just curious so it's not that surprising to me they'd do something like that :D As for me i have 2 cats and can't say that ever happend to me, tho i do close the door so there's really no way for my cats to come in while i'm using the toilet...and even when the door is open they never really go in the bathroom, let alone the toilet. My dog does drink out of the bowl sometimes tho :P but i guess that's pretty normal for dogs.

My cat does not try to stick his head in the toilet while someone is using the toilet, however he will often be found trying to drink out of the toilet! We keep fresh water out for him at all times so I don't understand his desire to drink from the toilet. He also nudges the door open and comes in to sit in the bathroom if someone is on the toilet! He feels he has to be with one of us at all times!

Do you have a cat fountain, or just a bowl of water?

Unfortunately what smells rotten to us, probably smells wonderful to an animal. LOL Our cat doesn't try to do that while we're using the toilet, but she loves to drink out of the toilet. Often times when I go in to use the toilet, I have to get the cat out of the way.

Ew. Our cats don't drink out of the toilet - they have a cat fountain to drink from - but occasionally Sigil will play in the toilet leaving wet paw prints on the seat. We try to prevent that by closing all the toilet lids after use.

My cats have done many silly things, but not this. Years ago I did have one cast who jumped on the toilet seat & fell in. He was rescued not looking at all happy. One of my current cats like to come in the toilet with me, but she doesn't put her head in the toilet. I guess your cat is just real curious about what goes on there!

LOL, as a matter of fact, my kitten ALWAYS comes into the bathroom when I go to the toilet, and either sniffs around and rubs against my legs or actually tries to get on my lap to be petted. =P She also LOVES the shower and other running water, if I'm filling a bottle in the sink, she runs up and jumps onto the sink to watch. She's strange, and beautiful =)

My cat, Bindi, is just insane enough to try this constantly. I'll be sitting on the toilet, and here comes her head, trying to look into the toilet while I'm using. She practically runs to watch when I flush, too. I usually have to close the lid to keep her from jumping in. It's hilarious, if a bit annoying at times.
