Children Say The Darndest Things

I used to tell my children when we would be out walking and they would complain about the length of the journey not to look forward to see how far we had yet to go, but rather to look behind you to see how far you've already come. One night when my son and I were walking and I was feeling very down, I said to my son who was about 5 at the time that I couldn't take another step. He looked at me with those big brown solemn eyes and he said, Mom, you can do it. Look how far you've already come. I'll never forget it as long as I live. Has your child ever said anything to you that you felt was beyond their years and that you find truly inspiring?

I have a nine year old son and a 3 yr old son. I cant think of anything really inspiring right off hand. But when i come home from work in the morn after a bad night i go check on them. Just seeing them sleeping peacefully is very inspiring knowing everything i do is for them.

You are absolutely correct. Actually night time is one of my favorite moments. Looking in on my son and knowing that I have gotten him through another day is pretty darn inspirational.

Actually my son also has not said anything since he was just a baby boy long time ago. Me and my wife were on a discussion of over some issues then all of a sudden my wife cried and our son who wasw just playing silently on one side just went to my wife and hugged her and then he just reach out to me to group hug. Everything just went well after that argument and my son just brokered peace in the family and we both were humbled by it.

Children certainly have a way of doing that don't they. There has been more than one time when my ex and I or my current boyfriend and I were arguing, just to have one of my children intercede with a pearl of wisdom which made us stop in our tracks.

Funny, I just started my blog today (http://zodiactimes.blogspot.com - it's so new, you need to type in the address), where I was writing about a conversation with my 7 y.o. son and how startled I was when i realized that it was like a conversation with God - only through him!

this was the only thng that came to mind, about 6 years into the marriage thngs had gotten very bad for my ex and i, I was getting ready to leave him. My son and daughter one day, just looked at us and said, mom, dad we want you to go out, alone, together. My daughter opened the closet to look for a nice dress, my son volunteered to babysit, he was 5, she was 4. I knew then that I could not leave yet. We did go out, we found a sitter. It did not go all that great, but for the kids sake I felt we should try. It just broke my heart, they were so worried that mom and dad might seperate, it took another 12 years before I finaly did leave. They new when it finaly happened we had tried all we could. They were also older and better able to deal with such a hard issue. Our children are far more aware then we give them credit for I often think, they were so young to have such a big adult worry.

When I asked my children if they thought my ex and I should stay together they said no. They told me all you ever do is argue. Why would we want to spend the rest of our lives listening to that. Question answered.
