Do you feel deprived? Do you feel as if you are constantly watching your health? Or is it just a way of life to you? I am not diabetic. It runs in my famiily though. When I say runs in my family, I mean my grandfather had it, grandmother, uncle, cousin have it. I was borderline gestational diabetic when I was pregnant. Last time I was checked, I was right above the borderline area. That was before I lost weight though. I am hoping that I'm not diabetic now. I am going to be tested again soon. I want to start eating as if I were diabetic for preventative measures. I just don't want to feel deprived. I wanted to know others opinions.

I have been diabetic since 28th Sept 2002.... I'll never forget that date... I'm type 1, so I'm on insulin injections. 4 a day. I'm just out of hospital for the 4th time. I also battle with depression which makes things a lot harder. I'm 19 by the way. I hate having this. I've been in and out of hospital because I don't look after myself. I just find it too hard to cope with. All I hear from the nurses is, if you don't look after yourself you could go blind, have organ failure, amputated limbs, eventually die. Do they think I don't know all this? Do they think I just think everything will be fine? I've tried to tell them I need more support.... I just don't know. No one in my family has it. Just me.

Good luck. Have you read the Secret? Or Finding your own north star? I think they may benefit you. I know I am benefiting from them. It's like a whole new outlook on life.

I've been making an effort lately... Since my last trip to the hospital... Because I made my fiance get a blood test, cos it runs in his family, and he was diagnosed with type 2. I know people say that I should want to be healthy for me.... But to be honest, I just want to do it for him. We want to have a family and I know how dangerous it is to be pregnant when you're blood levels are all over the place. I'd be devastated if we couldn't have kids.... I know that I just have to grow up and take a handle on this. But its still hard. Yeah I used to see a psychiatrist, but I stopped going. They are arranging for me to see someone else in a little while. Hopefully I'll get sorted out. Thanks for the words of support guys. Much appreciated :) XXX

i have only just found out i am diabetic.. type 2.. i have thought for a few years i was but never done anything about it, mainly because i am petrified of needles... thanks to my fiancee i have finially got tested.. she has been a diabetic for a few years now and she has given me all the support i have needed.. she has also replied to this discussion... the reasons that made me think i had diabetes to begin with where 1- my father has type 2 diabetes and a cousin of mine has type 1.. and 2- an old friend of mine was diabetic and she use to get the shakes bad when her sugar was low and use to have to have something to eat for them to go away and i had the same thing happen to me on occasions.. since finding out i have completely changed my diet and have become more aware of the sugar levels in food products.. i have also decided to get off my backside and loose some weight so i can help control it better and be healthier..

From someone who is now Insulin dependant being Diabetic is a journey and at times can be a struggle, but it is up to me what I do in life to control it better as well. I personally have my Bad days and good, but overall being Diabetic is something I know I am in control of, and what I do each day is what will matter the most in the end as well. A person who is Diabetic even since they were a child can learn to live a more normal Healthy life just like everyone else. They just need to learn how to control their BG levels, and eat the foods that are better for them as well. If you are going to eat things that are more Carb oriented or two sweet this will actually make things worse, but there is many Books out there, Diaticians, Yahoo groups, etc. to help you learn to adjust as well. But the choice is yours, and where you go from here as well. Wishing you the Best.

From the way you describe you family history on diabetes I would say if you don't take good care of you lifestyle you would be one of them pretty soon. How do I feel right now? Hmmm well actually two years ago when I was first diagnose I was really worried and felt somewhat depressed about how things would go with my life. After about a year I already accepted it as a fact and it became normal for me to change my lifestyle. I don't feel anything right now as I keep on watching my diet and medications. So far my glucose level remained normal for over a year now. My doctor was pretty impressed but he said it will take its toll sometime in the future when my age could not cope but it could be delayed if I follow preventative measures.

That's great. I know that I have to watch out. I was borderline gestational diabetes and did a great job then. I completely controlled my blood sugar with my diet. I knew that I had to for my baby.

hi now I have come to terms with it and its just one of those things to deal with most of the time but the first few weeks after I was diagnosed I was in shock and it took a bit of doing to work through that. Then I joined a diabetes educator's class and met other people who were in the same boat so now I think if you have to have a immune disease diabetes beats having cancer or heart trouble because with proper diet and exercise and the right medications you can live a long and happy life.oh sure I get tired at times of not being able to eat some of my old favorites but then when my blood sugar shoots up because I cheated I realize I am only doing myself in and I go back to eating a healthy diet actually the diet that is recommended for us is the same one we all should be eating to be healthy lots of veggies. fruit. lean meat, lofat milk and lots of whole grains. and watch your carb intake and be lo fat this is good for everyone. If you plan carefully you really can eat almost all of your favorites, just not pig out. You are right in eating as tho you were diabetic just might prevent you from ever getting the disease.I worry about myson as he is approaching fifty and both I and my husband were diabetics so he has to be careful and I know he does not always get all the veggies and other things he should be eating. also he has a small pot which is not so good. Also anyone who had had gestational diabetes has a bigger risk of developing diabetes later in life unless she really exercises, eats properly. and watchs their weight and of course not smoke

I was borderline gestational diabetic. I checked my blood sugar 4x a day when I was pregnant. I controlled it really well though. That is why I know I can do it. It's just doing it is all. Hard to get motivated. I go to the doctor tomorrow. I think I am going to ask her to check my blood sugar.

there is no reason to be deprived bcoz one is diabetic . everybody on this earth at one time or the other will hv to suffer from one or more ailments. moreover Diabetes is not a disease caused by any bacteria or any bad act of ours. Diabetes is a disorder of natural body function. we are supposed to exercise fr good health at least walking for about 5 kms a day but bcoz of modern life we hv no time to think of all those. we are supposed to eat natural vegetables and fibre foods. but in the modern life style we are forced eat junk foods etc, and meaningless aerated drinks with unwanted sugar content. So if we live the natural life travel by walking, eat naturally all vegetables , avoiding all readymade foods, and junk foods we can protect ourselves from the side effects of Diabetes. Diabetes never troubles you know to keep under control otherwise the side effects are many and serious that is all. Lat us not get deprived at all pls visit www.pharmawebonline.com
