I started a discussion on shopping yesterday and this brought to mind something a close friend of mine said once. She told me that when she felt down and out[justifiable because she has a sick child who has not been normal ever since she was born and till date the mother has to look after her-she is now 30 years old she went out and freaked on some greeting cards and pictures -just to make this into an album-there need not be any impending birthday or occasion.] Yesterday many people responded to my discussion and I found a similarity in approach in some cases. Another advocate friend of mine has also mentioned that there is a peculiar satisfaction arising out of spending. Do you agree that spending gives you satisfaction?

I find that spending money gives me momentary satisfaction. I feel wonderful while I am shopping and purchasing things but then when I get home and add up how much money i had added to my credit card bill I feel even worse than I did before I had gone shopping in the first place, which, believe it or not, makes me want to go shopping again! When I feel down in the dumps I tend to purchace mass amount of weight loss products or clothing that I would feel better in if I were thinner. I guess alot of my down periods are due to my feeling helpless about my weight gain and inability to lose the weight I have put on. So I go shopping to buy things in hopes that it will motivate me to lose all the weight i have gaine din the past few months.

Yesterday my sister and I was just talking about the satifaction we get when we go shopping when we're feeling down. Shopping seems to lift our spirits.Well, for me I think shopping is therapeutic because when I spend I gain something that I want. For instance, I love fashion so I go shopping for clothes because it excites me.I feel fulfilled when I purchase something that I like. I think for many spending can be therapeutic.

I know shopping is therapeutic for me! It's not the spending per se, it's the satisfaction of being able to get what you want without a care in the world. Obviously when we shopping as a therapy, we are trying to get over something that we cannot get, or do. Of course we also welcome distraction. Can't think about anything but how gorgeous that dress is! LOL!
It's very much similar to dining in expensive restaurants or dancing the night away. Because no one can stop you from doing that, except for an empty wallet! ;D
Sometimes window shopping does it for me, too. I'd be overflowing with adrenalin, vowing not to look at the tag price and just slide my plastics away. But after a few stores and I have calmed down, a frap from Starbucks becomes a fair alternative, specially when it comes with pastries!

yep i think people usually feel satisfied after purchasing something, especially if they're feeling down. that's why many people just loves to go for a retail therapy session when they're depressed or just plain bored, etc. but it depends though, for some they only get temporary satisfaction...because no matter how much you spend, the problem that you're facing doesn't go away until you deal with it eh?

yes! I think shopping is a very good form of therapy, and I use it as an excuse a lot lol! I like it becuase it helps take my mind off of the situation that it bugging me so bad. And then I get wrapped up in the excitement of the new things I bought, espically if its clothes because then I'm to buy thinking when I'm going to wear it etc. But I also like buying things for the household because the keeps my mind busy also while I play with wear I'm gonna put this new item!
