Time! Time! Time! I Need More Time!

You know I thought that once I had my own computer, I would have more time to devote to my work...I've had my own computer now for a full year. Prior to that I used the computers at a library where one is alloted one glorious hour or half hour..hardly enough time to even answer emails...sometimes I splurged and would go to an Internet place but I was still limited in what I wanted to do.
So now I have my own computer and film scanner...it had been my goal to be able to scan my 35mm film slides and black and white work and begin some kind of on-line photo business...still working on that. But now with my own computer I find a LOT more things to do....write articles for Associated Content, in the process of writing an e-book...and yes, of course, still scan more photos...gee, I only have 21,049 slides and an estimated 15,000 black and white images. Just last night I spent time scanning more photos for a specific request from the photo agency I hooked up with, Photographer's Direct. Then I have my short stories and novels I try to write. Then of course spend time here....uh, maybe too much time??? LOL..bottom line ..I NEED MORE TIME!
Anyway...lately I've gone back to self-promote my photo work by contacting various publications...and still of course, need to do more....but I finally got a nibble from a few places I had once previously been published...they are all interested in seeing my work...which means scanning more photos and sending some kind of portfolio to them via email attachments. That's the good news....the bad news I might be a little more missing in action here.
I'm going a tad nuts already as I've already gotten way behind here...I get my email notices that many of my friends have started discussions and I DO want to participate, but I've been spending a lot of time here by responding to people that have answered my discussions that I haven't gotten around to responding to so many of my friends discussions...so for that I apologize..I really want to answer and participate in your discussions so I'm not ignoring you.
Anyhow...do you sometimes get frustrated that you just plain don't have enough time to do all the things you want to do on your computer? I like to think I'm organized and I always plan what I want to accomplish each day, it's just that I never have enough time as I thought I would..Do you need more time each day??

Yeh I know what you mean,I think there is so much you can do in cyberspace its hard to get yourself off the computer to do many other things so time does run away. Sometimes I am on here for hours without realizing it.

I completely understand how you're feeling!
I use to feel like that all the time when I was working.
And I do consider what you're doing as work :)
It was so frustrating sometimes because it felt like I never had any time just for me.
I hope things lighten up for you soon.
I do think a daily planner of some type would be a good idea for you. But just remember to use it more as a guide line because sometimes things run over :)

Are you kidding? Not only do I have a daily planner..but...I map out the general things I want to accomplish in a month's time, then plan for each week, then a daily thing..the real problem is, is that everything I do tends to be time consuming and yes I have to expect things maybe taking longer than originally intended ...today for instance instead of scanning photos, I looked up possible other contacts to promote my photography work..I have this directory called Photographer's Market and started going through it with a fine tooth comb, then emailed a bunch of places to see if I get anyone interested--I plan to go through my Writer's Market book too, as sometimes they use photos especially in the literary magazines, especially black and white photos, and now that I know how to scan my black and white negatives I'm no longer limited to my color work

Whoo Hooo! Another One Bites The Dust! It always gives me a flutter when I know that I am not the only one that has been afflicted with this happening! Technology has made our lives more hurried than ever instead of giving us more down time as it promised to. The coffee pot doesn't simply need turned off when it's done, it has an obnoxious beep that screams at you to turn it off; the convenience of the cell phone was wonderful but it is ever present - do you ever remember taking your old dial up phone to a restaurant with you? The only other thing I can add is for you to wait until your grandchildren get Webkinz pets and you also have to have them so you can play with the grandchildren online! It is neverendingneverendingneverendingneverending!

Well the cell phone is one thing that isn't a factor in my life...don't have one...hehee..If I want to talk to someone, I'll do it from home and not having a phone glued to my ear and walking along the street..LOL

Hi Pyewacket
There is nobody who says that you have to do it all in one day.
It is a question of giving prorities to what's need to be done first... and forget the rest.
Mylot must never be considered as work... and you are putting too much pressure on yourself in believing that you have to respond to everyone.
Mylot must be regarded as a place where you come to relax when you want to take a break from work.
The things you can do with a computer are only limited by your imagination. I have been on it for 14 years and I have still not run out of things to do.

We all have set backs and we all make mistakes.
People who get divorce after 20 years... often feel that they have wasted the best 20 years of their life. Not only that... but if you are a man of 40 or 45 years old... you also lost half of your money in the process. You thought you had it made... and now you are almost back to square one.
There is only one solution. You put it behind you... and you forget about it. You will lose even more time if you keep playing the blame game.
There is nothing you can do to recover those ten years... except work until 75 instead of 65. lol
Even if you work 24 hours a day today... you will tell yourself that you could have worked 24 hours a day during those 10 years. It is hopeless.
Lost time can never be recover... no matter what. So don't waste your time trying. Just be happy with what you got... and make the best out of it. By the sound of it... you have more opportunities than I have... so go for it.

Well that's the overachiever in me. No it's not just the MyLot issue and making responses to those who have replied to my discussions....It's everything else. I spent so many years not doing shat for myself...that was due and yes I'm doing a blame game thing, on my mother. Up until 1996 I was a successfully published photographer but my mother had created a serious "issue" that would later on nearly get us evicted. Since I fully admit I was wrapped up in "surviving" my agoraphobia issue, I didn't "see" just how really messed up my own mother was....and she had a lot of emotional issues there..Know how they say that sometimes you don't see a problem with a family member even though it's right in your face? Anyway due to all the problems my mother had created in our lives I was the one trying to handle things...she took none of the responsibilities nor even think there was anything wrong.
So.....bottom line, yes, I do try to do too much but it's like I'm trying to make up for all those years I neglected my own needs and letting my life go on hold trying to deal and cope with all the problems my mother created that made me put my photo career to a screeching halt in the first place. If you do your math,..that was ten years of my life I didn't do anything with my life by taking on all that responsibility my mother should have done rather than me. Heck she was even a real pain in the a$$ the last year of her life...she could have had a visiting nurse to help her but very adamantly refused (she was very vocal about that)...so I was her 24 hour caregiver

i definitely understand how you feel and what you're going through! we didn't have an internet connection before and my computer used to break down a lot. so i used to go in an internet shop and like you, i spent a lot on surfing but still everything was limited. ^__^;;
and when i finally got our computer fixed and applied for an internet service, i thought i would be able to do everything i want to do here in the internet. well, i do but as time goes by, the things that i want to do piles up and up and up!i want to watch a lot of animes, jdoramas and korean dramas, i want to download every images and music that i like, i want to update and pimp all of my account/profiles from every sites that i have joined, i want to myLot 24/7! ^__^;;
not only that, i want to make my own stationaries using the images i downloaded, make wallpapers of my own design, listen to all the songs i downloaded, print pictures, everything that can be done by a computer. its weird coz when before, i don't have these huge list of things to do with the computer and internet.
and with this huge list, i also need more time to accomplish them all! i can only be on the computer the whole day during the weekends coz i have work during weekdays so i guess that's probably why i feel i need more time, more than 24/7. ^__^;;

There's never enough hours in the day, pyewacket. You know how I always tell you that you are a Superwoman, well, it's true. I'm just the opposite. I have to be enticed into doing what I know needs to be done most of the time. I easily become distracted if I come upon a game that I'd rather be playing, lol. I even have to battle to get in my reading time. I've started rising earlier in the morning, but that means I have to shut down earlier at night. It's a lose-lose situation. I keep telling myself that I need to make up a schedule and stick to it. Maybe this will be the week I'll finally get it done. As for discussions, I have a backlog that I've been chipping away at gradually. With any luck I'll catch up by summer, lol.

Oh, how I wish I even had time to play games on my computer..but that's all I need as I know I would get hooked and would wile away the time.....have you seen that banner here for Pirates Puzzle...looks right up my alley...well, maybe if and when I have ten minutes extra I'll play it...LOL... Oh, I do the same thing too, always telling myself to go to bed earlier so I can get up earlier..never works though..too much of the night owl in me...and for some reason, I'll often get "brilliant" creative ideas around midnight...LOL

I use my PC for work and play. I run 2 laptops at the same time so I can constantly keep an eye on work ie the stock market because it changes from minute to minute, at times work can get frustrating and stressful and i think, for me anyway, having mylot, facebook, mirc, msn etc is an good way to have a break as i work alone at home. Through mirc I have met some readlly great friends including my fiancee, we chatted for 4 years before we hooked up anyway thats another discussion. But what Im really trying to say is computers work for me on a professional and social basis, I still find it extremely important to switch them off and walk away and and enjoy my life and obviously spend the money I earn lol

That's the least of my problems. I'm sortof in the middle of nowhere, down here, and it's not yet warm enough to use the swimming pool, so I spend my days in here doing whatever I want on the computer, and watching TV.

I totally feel that way every day! I think it's because as much as I multi-task, there is always something else I'd like to do on the computer. Right now I'm on mylot, and thinking of writing reviews for my other sites, and thinking of researching for my vacation, and thinking of sending in pics to this new photo site I found, and thinking of shopping for clothes for vacation...
and basically thinking, I should just go to bed :) That's the problem! I want to do all this but usually I think of so much I NEED/WANT to do that I get tired and just want to go to bed. I hope the rest will help me get more done tomorrow.

Oh, my goodness...my head is swimming from hearing all the things you want to do...just like me...I always have three thousand things on my mind..the "I shoulds" "I should be doing this..I should be doing that..." And oh, yes, sometimes it gets so overwhelming I tire myself out by thinking of all the things to do :(

There is no end of our desires. We need more and more and we forget that there is an end of life. Time is slipping like sand in our hand. We don’t know but we are trying to get more and much. This is not bad to work to gain for more. We can achieve goals of success by our struggle, by our hard work. But time does not care it. It is passing with silence. The people who do not attempt to get some thing could not reach to the goals of success. But time does not care to those also. We call them time waster. Time wasters do not achieve the success. But working hard and getting some thing from the passing time is real life. It is good that you have your own computer and also film scanner. Time gave some thing to you as you worked for it and this is and this was a life too.

Yes, things that are time wasters rob us of time...which is why I don't talk on the phone much...Don't get me wrong I love my friends and do love talking to them...but I had to make it clear to one friend of mine who moved to Calif, that I no longer have the luxury of yakking on the phone for three hours to her like I did before I had my own computer...if she understands fine, if she doesn't kind of her problem....she's not trying to rebuild a career..I am...and that takes time, work and effort, right?

First thing I would do is get rid of the email notices of new discussions from myLot friends. When you get to myLot, you can always find them. I think that would take the pressure off answering all those emails and they wouldn't be sitting there in your inbox waiting for you. I know that I get very compulsive about handling each one - that's why I'm saying - let them go.
As I am bad at time management, I know how important it is to be on a schedule (just don't ask about how well I stick to mine haha). You have an incredible amount of stuff you're involved in - wow! I'd do the money making stuff first for sure. And no, I don't have enough time ever ever...I always have a few more items I'd really like to do when the day is over. Whit

Good Grief Charlie Brown, how are you doing all this?, lol!
I would start with anything that makes me money first, haha, and take it from there. I don't even have enough time to answer responses on Mylot as much as I'd like to. Working five days a week doesn't allow much time to have fun, because the other two days I have all my regular chores to do. Can't stand it...wish I could find a work at home job, but then I'd be going nuts with that too. You're so right Pye, there is just not enough time to do everything and it's a wonder why people are so tired all the time, and frustrated.
Sounds like you need a secretary, hmmmm?, and another computer. I would definitely keep on pushing those photo's though for sure.......wishing you the best.

Well right now my article writing resources that paid money fizzled out there..I was working for Exquisite Writing where they assign articles but they haven't had any work for over a month...which maybe is good, so now at least I can focus (no pun intended) on my photo work more...spent the day today for instance just making contacts via email with some places that might be interested in my work~~so wish me luck... :)
